In a major breakthrough, the Indo-Sino tensions in Eastern Ladakh may be resolved as the armies of both the countries have agreed to move back from parts of the Himalayan region to their respective positions before the April-May timeframe earlier next year. The disengagement plan was discussed between Beijing and New Delhi during the 8th Corps Commander-level talks held on November 6 in Chusul.

ANI reported that the disengagement is to be carried out in three steps in one week from the talks in the Pangong lake area to the armoured vehicles including tanks and armoured personnel carriers were to be moved out of the Line of Actual Control (LAC) from both sides to a significant distance. Disengagement of tanks and armoured personnel carriers were to be carried out within one day, as per the discussions. External Affairs Ministry’s Joint Secretary Naveen Shrivastava and Brigadier Ghai of Directorate General of Military Operations took part in the meeting that was held on November 6.

In the second step of disengagement, both the sides were supposed to withdraw around 30 per cent of troops every day for three days and the process were to be carried out near the northern bank on the Pangong Lake. The Indian side would move back to its administrative Dhan Singh Thapa post, while the Chinese military will go back to their position east of Finger 8.

The third step included the withdrawal of both sides from their respective positions along the southern bank of Pangong Lake area which includes the heights and territories around Chusul and Rezang La area.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s trusted security team, including Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) General Bipin Rawat, National Security Advisor (NSA) Ajit Doval, Air Force chief RKS Bhadauria and Army Chief General Manoj Mukund Naravane had taken strong military measures against China like occupying the dominating heights along the southern and northern bank of Pangong Lake on the LAC including the Ane La and Que La features.
