The Delhi Police filed a chargesheet against the Wrestling Federation of India chief Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh on Thursday. The Police filed a 1082-page chargesheet in a local court against him and his aide Vinod Tomar. The police have further requested for cancellation of the case filed against him under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act 2012 (POCSO).

As per the report, the request for cancellation of the case under POCSO is based upon a revision in the statement given by a minor complainant and her father to the Delhi Police. On April 28, two FIRs were registered against Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh based on a complaint filed by seven wrestlers, including a minor wrestler, who alleged sexual harassment and discrimination.

On June 5, the minor’s father recorded a fresh statement at Patiala House court in which he refuted the charge of sexual harassment brought against the WFI chief. Earlier, Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh had denied all the allegations against him and termed it as politically motivated.

As per the police, the chargesheet against Bhushan has been filed for sexually harassing, molesting, stalking and assaulting the women wrestlers with an intent to disrobe them.

In the chargesheet, the detailed statement of the six women wrestler who complained against Bhushan has been substantiated by more than four other wrestlers and coaches. There has been an examination of over 200 witnesses, including trainers, participants, event organisers, and members of the federation. This phenomenon authenticates the complaint and has been cited as the main evidence in the chargesheet filed by the Delhi Police.

The chargesheet also noted that Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh has been charged under relevant sections of the law based on the evidence collected and the police have requested the court to take cognizance. The Delhi Police added that they may file the supplementary chargesheet against the accused after they receive a statement from the overseas wrestling federations as Delhi Police have sought the details from them as well.

Although corroboration of the allegations made by the women wrestlers, coaches, and participants forms a major part of the evidence in the chargesheet, call detail records (CDR) from last year have also been placed on record.

Moreover, videos accessed from the Ordinance Committee before which the wrestlers had earlier deposed, alleging sexual harassment by Bhushan, have also been placed on record.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday hit out at the Congress and accused it of not letting the monsoon session of Parliament function smoothly and causing repeated disruptions. PM Modi also asked the BJP MPs to expose them before the media and public as it isn’t coming to the meetings or letting the House conduct any business.

Addressing a meeting of the BJP’s parliamentary party, he accused the Congress of deliberately spurning attempts at resolving an impasse that has seen little work in this session.

Referring to the Congress’ boycott of last week’s all-party meeting Covid-19 review meeting, PM Modi said the party has also prevented others from attending it.

The Prime Minister said that on one side, Congress stops the functioning of the House and on the other hand, they did not turn up to attend the all-party meeting called on Covid. Their behavior is against humanity. He asked MPs to expose the Congress among the people of India, sources said.

However, Union Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya said that government would likely start vaccinating children next month for #COVID19. He also said that India is soon going to be the largest vaccine-producing country as more companies will get a production license.

On July 19, while introducing the newly inducted ministers to the house, PM Modi had to abandon the exercise midway amid sloganeering against fuel price hikes, Pegasus phone-hacking row, and farmer protests by the opposition. PM said some people are not happy with the inclusion of women, OBCs, farmers’ sons into the cabinet and that is why they don’t even allow their introduction.

Yesterday the focus was on Congress MP Rahul Gandhi, as he drove a tractor to the parliament in support of the farmer’s protest against the Centre’s newly enacted farm laws.
