Mumbai Police on Monday arrested a Class 12 student for allegedly threatening Akasa Air airline on Twitter. The accused posted a tweet claiming that AkasaAir Boeing 737 Max will go down, which created chaos among the crew and staff members.

The Akasa Airline immediately filed a police complaint at the Airport Police Station in Mumbai. Based on the complaint, an FIR was registered against unidentified persons under Indian Penal Code Sections 505 (statements conducing to public mischief) and 506(2) (criminal intimidation).

The police then traced the IP address of the tweet which was linked to Surat in Gujarat. Following this, a team of police personnel was sent to the tracked location and found a Class 12 student. The student was arrested thereafter.

During the interrogation, the accused told the police that his intention was not to create ruckus, he was just interested in knowing about aircraft and had not realized the repercussions of such a post on social media, the official said.

The official said that after one day of custody, the accused was released on a bail of Rs 5,000 as his exams were going on.
