Actor-director Dhanush and director Aishwarya Rajinikanth filed for divorce in the Chennai family court recently. A sources close to the couple said they had filed for divorce under Section 13 B, which allows for divorce by mutual consent. In January 2022, the two made their decision to separate.

The two submitted divorce by consent papers over a year and a half later. Their case will be heard shortly. For the last two years, the couple have parted ways and were living seperately. However, the two were spotted together at the school functions for their sons, Yatra and Linga.

Dhanush revealed their split on X on January 17. Following 18 years of marriage, the couple headed for divorce.

Taking to social media X, Dhanush announced his divorce saying, 18 years of togetherness as friends, couple, as parents and well wishers to each other. The journey has been of growth, understanding, adjusting and adapting. Today they stand at a place where our paths separate, he said. Aishwaryaa and he has decided to part ways as a couple and take time to understand us as individuals for the better, he added.

Aishwarya Rajinikanth also posted a similar post on her social media account and seeked for the privacy tpo deal with the situation.

In 2004, at the ages of 21 and 23, respectively, Dhanush and Aishwarya tied the knot in a grand ceremony, in the presence of their family and friends. The couple were blessed with their first son, Yatra, in 2006 and with the second son, Linga, in 2010.

The two have focused on their individual professions since their split. With Lal Salaam, Aishwarya returned to directing, in which her father Rajinikanth also made a cameo. .

Dhanush has been quite busy at work, juggling his directorial endeavors and a number of acting roles. As of now he is working on Raayan, which is his second feature film as director.
