Clashes broke out at the Khwaja Moinuddin Chishti shrine in Ajmer Sharif on Sunday as members of two Muslim sects came to blows, reportedly over incendiary slogans by one of them.

A video of the incident is doing the rounds on the internet shows a scuffle between devotees belonging to the Barelvi sect and the Khadims who identify with the Ajmer sect.

Reports said that a fight ensued between the two groups after Dargah’s administration which is run by the Khadims of the Ajmer sects objected to some slogans and verses read by the Barelvis.

The fight soon turned violent as members of the two groups reportedly fought inside the Shrine.

As per reports, the Khadims allegedly started the fight near Jannati Darwaza by going after the persons raising slogans inside the Dargah.

Police arrived on the spot and managed to calm things down, reports said. However, no police complaint has been filed into the incident, reportedly.

Local media sources reported that a man identified as Zareen was allegedly assaulted by the Khadims for reportedly raising controversial slogans in Ajmer’s Shahjahani Masjid.

They said that the main raised pro-Barelvi slogans which were objected to by the Khadims or caretakers of the Dargah. The Khadim then reportedly thrashed the man after chasing him out of the mosque.

In a statement Secretary of Khadim organization, Anjuman, Syed Sarwar Chishti, strongly objected the sloganeering and demanded police action against the miscreants.
