Rajasthan Police on Sunday reached Noida in Uttar Pradesh to arrest TV journalist Aman Chopra for allegedly promoting enmity between different groups and hurting religious sentiments.

Several Twitter posts confirmed that he has been arrested by Rajasthan Police from Noida but there is no confirmation yet about his arrest.

Rajasthan Police action comes a day after Chopra was given a stay from the Rajasthan High Court in two separate FIRs registered against him in Bundi and Alwar. But he was facing an arrest warrant following a local court order in the Dungarpur district.

An FIR was registered against Chopra by a man alleging that the journalist gave false and fictitious details by showing that the demolition of a temple in Rajgarh of Alwar district was done by the Rajasthan government as an act of revenge following the demolition drive in Delhi’s Jahangirpuri, the FIR registered in Dungarpur Kotwali police station alleged.

Dungarpur SP Sudhir Joshi told the journalist that a team of Rajasthan Police is camping in Noida and searching all possible locations to trace him. The team went to Chopra’s house but he was not found there and his residence was locked, he said. He also said that the high court order does not mention the FIR registered against Chopra in Dungarpur and a stay was given on his arrest in FIRs registered in Bundi and Alwar districts.

Earlier on April 23, three FIRs have been registered against Aman Chopra. The FIRs have been registered in Rajasthan’s districts Bundi, Alwar and Dungarpur. He had been booked under various sections pertaining to sedition, outraging religious sentiments and promoting enmity between two groups. The TV journalist had also been booked under the Information Technology (IT) Act.

A 26-year-old woman in Alwar was allegedly raped by a sub-inspector of Rajasthan police after she went to lodge an FIR at a district police station, reports said on Monday. The woman alleged that the officer and the second-officer-in-command at the police station, raped her for three days between March 2 and March 4.

The incident took place inside the room of police station compound, where the accused sub-inspector lived, reports said. As per the police, the woman had contacted the officer on March 2 regarding a complaint against her husband.

Back in 2018, the woman had filed a case of dowry and harassment against her husband which was later settled. But now, the woman said that her husband wanted to give her divorce and she was not agreeing. She had come to the police station and contacted the sub-inspector to lodge the complaint against her husband for the same, Alwar Superintendent of Police, told The Indian Express on Monday.

He said when the police came to know about the incident, an FIR was lodged on Sunday under section 376 (rape) IPC, and the accused was arrested. He is in police custody. A phone recording has also been presented by the woman, which has prima facie verified her accusations. Action is being taken against the SHO of the police station, he added.

The process of suspension and other disciplinary action has been initiated against the accused sub-inspector from the office of the inspector general.

The woman’s statement will be recorded before a magistrate and further investigation is being conducted in the matter.
