[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]In a shocking incident, a girl from North Kashmir’s Bandipora today (Saturday, April 12) committed suicide after being repeatedly raped by her father.

According to the sister of the deceased girl, her father had been raping her for years. But she was unable to reveal it to anyone for the fear of getting killed.

The girl was rushed to the hospital after she consumed poison but she could not be saved, police said.

The police have arrested the accused and the dead body of the girl has been taken into the custody for medico-legal formalities.

“We have registered an FIR in the case. Facts will be revealed soon as we have started the investigation,” SSP Bandipora, Rahul Malik told News18.

The victim’s sister alleged that her uncle also used to rape his daughter. “When my father got know about my uncle he started doing same with my sister. She pleaded before him but he would threaten to kill her,” she said.

The girl has accused her father of attempting to rape her as well and when she tried to tell this to her grandfather, he asked her to hush up the matter.

“I told my grandfather but he told me to not to reveal it to anyone as it would be a humiliation for the family,” she said.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row]

[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]Security forces killed three militants today (Dec 9) in an encounter in Mujgund village near Srinagar-Bandipora road.

The security forces launched a search operation on Saturday evening after receiving specific information about the presence of terrorists at a house at Mujgund village, around 11 kms from Srinagar.

Local reports said that five security forces personnel were injured in the initial exchange of fire on Saturday evening. The police, however, said that one army man was injured.

“Incriminating materials including arms and ammunition were recovered from the site of encounter. Police has registered a case and initiated investigation in the matter,” report said.

Fierce clashes between stone throwing youth and security forces were going on around the encounter site.

“Security forces fired dozens of tear gas shells and pellets to disperse the youth,” an eyewitness said. He said that four houses were destroyed in the blasts during the gunfight.

A police officer said that during the search operation, the search party was fired upon by the hiding militants. “The fire was retaliated leading to a gunfight. In the initial exchange of fire one army jawan sustained injuries and was shifted to hospital for medical treatment,” he said.

Internet services have been suspended, keeping security measures in consideration.

The police have requested people not to venture inside the encounter zone since such an area can prove dangerous due to stray explosive materials.

“People are requested to cooperate with police till the area is completely sanitized and cleared of all the explosives materials if any,” the police officer said.

Kashmir police in a statement said that the identities and affiliations of the slain militants are being ascertained.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row]

[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]On December 12, at least five jawans went missing, after an avalanche struck a forward post at Gurez and Nowgam sectors of North Kashmir.

The Indian Army on Tuesday confirmed that the bodies of three soldiers – who earlier went missing on December 12 after an avalanche hit a forward post in the Gurez and Nowgam sector of Jammu and Kashmir – have been recovered.

According to Defense Ministry spokesperson Colonel Rajesh Kalia, while bodies of two Army jawans had been recovered from the Gurez sector of the Line of Control (LoC) in Bandipora, another soldier’s body was recovered from Nowgam sector of Kupwara. However, two soldiers – who also went missing last week – had reportedly slipped into a deep gorge in Nowgam sector of the Line of Control (LoC) and were still to be found.

“Searches are on for the bodies of two more soldiers, who are still missing,” said Rajesh Kalia.

On December 12, at least five Indian Army jawans went missing, after an avalanche – triggered by heavy snowfall – struck a forward post at Gurez and Nowgam sectors of North Kashmir’s Bandipora district. To recover the bodies of the missing soldiers, the Army earlier asserted that they had deployed specially trained teams of its High Altitude Warfare School (HAWS).

Hours after the avalanche hit the army post; a senior police official said that continuing snowfall in the area had been hampering the rescue operation. “Efforts are on to trace the missing soldiers but continuous snowfall is hampering the rescue and search efforts,” he said.

Days back, the MET department and the Indian Army’s Snow Avalanche Study Establishment (SASE) predicted avalanches in the upper regions of the valley and had warned Army jawans deployed across the Line of Control (LoC). With 40 observatories in various locations, the Army’s SASE unit regularly issues warnings and alerts to armed force soldiers who are deployed in high-altitude areas and along the LoC.

Surrounded by high mountains, the Gurez valley – which is around 150 km away from Srinagar – is connected to the rest of Kashmir through a road link which passes at an altitude of more than 11,000 feet. Being mostly isolated during the winter due to extreme weather conditions, Gurez is one of the most-preferred infiltration routes for terror outfits.

Earlier in January this year, four avalanches hit North Kashmir’s Gurez and Sonmarg in a single day – claiming the lives of 11 soldiers and four civilians. In another instance in April, heavy snowfall triggered multiple avalanches, resulting in the burial of an army picket in Batalik sector in Ladakh – claiming the lives of three jawans.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row]

[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]JK Police constable Zahir Abbas was killed in the gun fight

A police constable was martyred and two militants killed during an encounter which broke out between militants and security forces in North Kashmir‘s Bandipora district in the morning hours of Sunday.

The security forces had cordoned off Mir Mohalla village in Hajin area of the district after receiving intelligence inputs about the militants’ presence.

The militants opened fire to break the cordon while security forces were engaged in the search operations, triggering a gun battle.

“The security forces started the search operations at around 6.25 am and the militants opened fire from a house at around 8 am,” an official at the Bandipora police control room said. The official said that Jammu and Kashmir Police constable Zahir Abbas was killed in the gun fight.

Meanwhile, clashes were erupted between protesters and security forces after the gunfight raged at the site of the encounter. People took to streets and pelted stones on the forces.

This is the second gun fight in Bandipora this month. On October 11, two Indian Air force commandos along with two militants were killed in an intense gun battle.

The latest development comes after the appointment of Ex- Intelligence Bureau Chief Dineshwar Sharma’ as interlocutor to initiate dialogue with all stake holders in Jammu and Kashmir.

In a recent statement, army chief Bipin Rawat had said that the appointment of interlocutor would not affect the armed force’ operation in the valley where 160 militants have been killed during the year.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row]
