The Jharkhand unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Monday demanded the resignation of Jharkhand Health Minister Banna Gupta after a purported video showed him having an obscene conversation with a woman on video call.

Sharing the alleged video on his Twitter handle, BJP MP Nishikant Dubey wrote: “This is the character of @INCIndia, this is the so-called matter of Jharkhand Health Minister Banna Gupta ji. Playing with dignity of women, Congress worker Sushil Sharma burning his wife in oven, I wish Gandhi family could understand, if this is found true then the Congress should drown itself in shame.”

Dubey, the BJP MP from Godda said he received the 19-second clip from a private news portal.

Dubey said that Jharkhand Congress chief and the Chief Minister’s office must issue a comment on the objectionable video and order a probe.

The BJP lambasted the Congress leader over the purported video and demanded his resignation from Chief Minister Hemant Soren’s cabinet.

In a statement, Jharkhand BJP spokesman Pratul Shahdeo said the Congress must issue a clarification on the “obscene and objectionable” video.

Shahdeo said that although the veracity of the video hasn’t been verified yet, people want to know if it’s real or fake and it becomes the chief minister’s responsibility to order a probe into the alleged video as Banna Gupta is a minister in his cabinet.

The BJP leader added that Gupta must immediately step down if the video is found to be genuine.

Meanwhile, Banna Gupta, while terming the video as “fake and edited”, claimed the it was part of a conspiracy by his political opponents to tarnish his reputation.

The minister said he has filed a complaint with the police in this connection and threatened legal action against people who have tried to “frame” him.

The authenticity of the alleged video has not be confirmed yet.
