Rains have once again highlighted the flaws in the civic infrastructure. India’s Silicon Valley is experiencing heavy rains, causing a flood-like situation in the city.

The torrential rains in the city have turned the roads into lakes. The flood-like situation in the city is causing problems for people to travel. People are sharing the visuals of the unpleasant scenario and the severely flooded areas on social media.

People are finding new modes of transport to reach their destination. A resident of Bengaluru dropped the video of the Bellandur Bridge where people are taking cranes to reach their destinations due to the waterlogged situation in the city. Isn’t it giving us a Venice feel?

Water logging in the city reached to the point where tractors and boats were also utilized to ferry students and office goers in the morning.

A user on Twitter shared the video from the posh Sunny Brooks Layout at Sarjapur road of tractors backing out in Bengaluru’s residential layouts.

Karnataka, on the other hand, is expected to experience heavy rain until September 9, said India Meteorological Department (IMD). Heavy rain is predicted for Bengaluru, three districts of coastal Karnataka, and hilly regions of the state. 

From September 5 to September 9, a yellow alert has been issued for the districts of Kodagu, Shivamogga, Uttara Kannada, Dakshina Kannada, Udupi, and Chikmagalur. Fishermen have been warned not to go out into the water because severe, swift winds are expected.

Several parts of Bengaluru received incessant rain on Sunday night that continued till the next morning. The heavy downpour resulted in flooding at the prestigious Jawaharlal Nehru Centre for Advanced Scientific Research (JNCASR). As per reports, the rain damaged crucial equipment worth several lakhs and documents that dated back twenty-five years.

Pictures and videos of the destruction are doing rounds on the internet. It is also reported that on Monday morning, rainwater gushed into the JNCASR premises which are located in Jakkur Newar Rachenahalli lake and sewage water entered into the laboratories, destroying genetic samples.

Along with JNCASR, several homes in Bengaluru got flooded last evening which resulted in residents being stranded. Cars parked in the basement were also spotted submerged in floodwater.

Reportedly, boats were deployed in several parts of north Bengaluru to rescue the residents. There have been reports of 658 houses that have been completely damaged and 8,495 houses been partially damaged due to heavy downpours in Karnataka since September.
