Madhya Pradesh chief minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan has come under the attack of opposition after he allegedly passed off a poem written by a media professional as his wife Sadhna Singh’s poem. Chouhan had shared the poem titled Baauji last month after the death of his father-in-law’s and said his wife had written it to express her emotions following the last rites of her father.

However, the post has sparked controversy after scribe Bhumika Birthare took to Twitter and said the poem was written by her when she lost her father. She tagged Chouhan and asked him to give her credit for the same. She added that the poem was titled Daddy and not Baauji as claimed by Chouhan in his social media post. She said she hoped Chouhan will not violate her rights as he is known for protecting them. She said it would be an injustice to her feelings for her father if she is not given credit for the poem.

According to Birthare, she posted the poem on November 20 on her social media account. In conversation with a news channel, Birthare said she wrote the poem on her phone when she was grieving the loss of her father and shared it on one of the WhatsApp groups. She said Mama, as Chouhan is fondly known as, is her favourite and she does not want to politicise the issue, but she should credit for the poem.

Following the controversy, former state Congress chief Arun Yadav slammed the Madhya Pradesh chief minister and said BJP has expertise in changing names. Earlier, they used to change the names of the schemes introduced in the Congress regime and now they are passing off someone’s poem as their wife’s poem.
