In a heartwrenching incident, a video of an elderly couple begging to arrange money to get their son’s body released from a government hospital in Bihar’s Samastipur is doing rounds on social media.

It is reported that a hospital employee demanded Rs 50,000 from the couple to release their son’s body from the hospital. And to do so, the couple was seen begging to arrange the bribe so that they can get their son’s body.

The father of the deceased youth said that his son went missing some time back. Mahesh Thakur, the deceased’s father told news agency ANI that some time ago his son had gone missing and now they received a call that his son’s body is at Sadar Hospital, Samastipur. He further said that a hospital employee asked for Rs 50,000 to release his son’s body, they are poor, so how can they pay this amount.

As the video came to the light, the hospital authorities vowed to take strict action in the matter. DR SK Chaudhary, Civil surgeon, Samastipur, said that those found responsible will not be spared.

This is not the first instance when a staff worker at a hospital asked for money from the relatives of patients. Such cases are also taking place because most health workers at the hospital are on a contractual basis and they often do not get their salaries on time.
