The Enforcement Directorate (ED) had called the deputy chief minister of Bihar Tejashwi Yadav, , along with his father and Rashtriya Janata Dal chairman Lalu Prasad, for questioning regarding the railways land-for-jobs money laundering case investigation on Wednesday, December 20, as per the official sources.

Lalu Prasad Yadav (75) has been summoned to appear next week on December 27 in order to record their statements under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA), while Tejashwi Yadav (34), has been invited to depose before the federal inquiry agency at its office in Delhi on December 22.

This is the first time the ED has called Prasad to join the investigation. However, on April 11, Tejashwi was questioned by the ED for around eight hours.

The summons was issued when Amit Katyal, a claimed close associate of the Lalu Prasad family, was questioned. The ED took him in custody in November.

The purported fraud concerns the time when Prasad served as the railway minister in the UPA-1 government.

It is purported that between 2004 and 2009, a number of people were assigned to Group ‘D’ posts within different Indian Railway zones. In exchange, these individuals allegedly surrendered their land to the relatives of the then-railway minister Prasad and an associated business called AK Infosystems Private Limited.

The ED had earlier said in a statement that Katyal was the director of this business when it purchased land from candidates on behalf of Lalu Prasad.

The registered address of the company is D-1088, New Friends Colony, New Delhi, which is the house belonging to Lalu Prasad Yadav and his family members, the agency claimed.

Several other lands were also acquired by Amit Katyal in the said company in return for giving undue favours by Lalu Prasad Yadav when he was minister of railways, according to the agency.

It stated that in 2014, shares of the aforementioned company were transferred to Lalu Prasad’s family after they acquired the land.

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) filed a complaint that led to the ED filing a case under the PMLA’s criminal sections.

Tejashwi, the heir apparent of former Union minister and former Bihar chief minister Lalu Yadav, married his long time friend Rajshree Yadav on December 9, 2021. Rajshree, who hails from Rewari in Haryana, has been living in Delhi since childhood.

Tejashwi and Yadav studied together at DPS School in Delhi’s RK Puram.

[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]The Supreme Court today ( Friday, Feb 8) dismissed former Bihar deputy chief minister Tejashwi Yadav’s plea, challenging a Patna High Court order asking him to vacate the government bungalow meant for the deputy chief minister, and ordered him to shift to an accommodation for the leader of the opposition.

The top court imposed a fine of Rs 50,000 on the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) leader for pursuing litigation up to the top court even after two benches of the high court dismissed his plea.

“What is this luxury of litigation? Precious judicial time has been wasted,” a bench comprising Chief Justice Ranjan Gogoi and Justices Deepak Gupta and Sanjiv Khanna said.

Tejashwi Yadav, who is currently leader of the opposition in the Bihar state assembly, filed an appeal against the Patna High Court judgment turning down his petition challenging the Bihar government order to vacate his bungalow to make way for Deputy Chief Minister Sushil Kumar Modi.

On January 7, a division bench of the high court rejected the RJD leader’s appeal challenging a single judge order on October 6, 2018 turning down his petition against the state government’s direction.

“The petitioner has been allotted a bungalow, matching his status as a minister in the government, at 1, Polo Road, Patna. He cannot raise complaint on the decision so taken, simply because the present bungalow is more suited to him,” the single-judge order stated.

Tejashwi Yadav occupies the 5, Desh Ratna Marg bungalow, a stone’s throw from the Raj Bhavan and the chief minister’s official residence.

It was allotted to Tejashwi Yadav in 2015 when he was appointed deputy chief minister of the then ”Grand Alliance” government headed by Nitish Kumar.

The RJD lost power in the state and Nitish Kumar now heads a NDA government.

The Nitish Kumar government had asked Tejashwi Yadav to swap residences with Modi.”We find that this squabble over the allotment of a bungalow should not have been made a cause of dispute, as if it was a division of some private property. The rights which are being agitated upon are not such rights so as to place them on the pedestal of legally enforceable, indefeasible rights,” the high court had remarked.
