The murder of a journalist Vimal Yadav, employed at Dainik Jagran, who was shot dead at his home in the early hours of Friday in the Araria district of Bihar, was allegedly carried out by four persons, according to Bihar Police. Four individuals showed up at his Raniganj home and opened fire on him, hitting him in the chest.

Two of the four people who were detained on Saturday, according to the police, were responsible for the murder of Vimal Yadav.

Based on Vimal’s father’s complaint, a case was filed. Four of the eight suspects identified in the FIR were arrested earlier today.

In 2019, the suspect also killed Vimal Yadav’s sibling. In that case, Vimal was the only witness, and he felt immense pressure to change his testimony.

Several people were disturbed by the murder, including Chirag Paswan, the head of the Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas), who criticised Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, for failing to uphold law and order.

After expressing his sorrow at the murder in Araria, CM Nitish Kumar said, he had ordered officials to take immediate action soon after receiving the news.

According to a preliminary investigation by the Bihar Police, the murder showed that the deceased had a history of enmity with his neighbours, which could have led to the occurrence. Two years prior, Vimal’s brother was also killed in the same way. The late journalist had not yet testified in court against his sibling’s murderers.

Bihar Police announced on X, formerly known as Twitter, that the 35-year-old victim was a local journalist for the Dainik Jagran newspaper. Around 5:30 a.m., the burglars called his name and knocked on his door. When he opened the door, they shot him in the chest, according to the police.

According to the report, the police station chief arrived at the scene at around 05:35 and started an investigation. Superintendent of Police Araria also paid a visit.

A video has went viral on social media where a bunch of people can be seen attacking three officials with sticks and pelting stones at them.

In the viral video, it can bee clearly seen a truck filled with sand flees the scene, while the mob thrashing the officials with sticks, beating them and pelting stones at them. The man recording the video can be heard saying hit them, hit them while he run towards the three who were sitting in the ground and were being beaten by the mob.

The woman seen in the video is identified as Amya Kumari who is the district mining officer.

The incident is reported from Bihta area, a small town that comes under the Pataliputra Lok Sabha constituency in Bihar. Amya and her team who as a part of their drive had gone to this location for inspection and search operation of illegal sand mining, when they got charged by the mob.

Patna district administration in a statement issued has said that the incident took place in Bihta area when a team had gone for inspection of illegal sand mining and when the officials reached near the Koliwar Bridge, they got attacked by the anti-social elements.

The local police has seized as many as 50 vehicles involved in the illegal sand mining and has registered an FIR against 44 people.

As per reports, the police has already successfully made some arrests in the case and more is to be done in the future.

Senior Superintendent of Police Rajeev Mishra told media that soon they are going to make more arrests and the investigation is underway, he said the mastermind behind the incident will also be arrested soon.

Bihar YouTuber Manish Kashyap, who shared fake videos of attacks on Bihari migrants in Tamil Nadu, on Saturday was arrested by the Bihar police Economic Offences Unit (EOU).

Reports said Kashyap was wanted by the Bihar police and surrendered before the law enforcers in the West Champaran district.

Manish Kashyap has been booked by the Economic Offences Unit of the Bihar police on the charges of spreading fake videos of migrants killed and beaten up in Tamil Nadu on social media. Reports further said the EOU froze four bank accounts belonging to the YouTuber.

On March 15, Bihar police formed a special team to arrest Kashyap and Yuvraj Singh Rajput and carried out raids in other states as well to nab them.

The Bihar Police released a statement saying six teams were constituted by the EOU along with Patna and Champaran Police and raids were conducted on his locations at various places and hideouts since Friday.

Manish Kashyap surrendered at Jagdishpur police station of Bettiash on Saturday fearing arrest and other legal action, the police statement said.

Reports further said the EOU officials have already arrested Aman Kumar from the Jamui district. An FIR was filed against Manish Kashyap, Aman Kumar, Rakesh Tiwary, and Yuvraj Singh Rajput.

Manish Kashyap is known as the Son of Bihar on social media. He uploaded a video online tagging Bihar’s Deputy Chief Minister Tejashwi Yadav wherein he addressed the treatment of Bihar migrants in Tamil Nadu. He also claimed that an FIR was filed against him for speaking about the issue on social media.

Later, he shared a video on Facebook hinting towards the FIR. In the video shared by him, two people were seen laughing out loud while discussing the issue.

The video received massive flak on social media following which the Tamil Nadu Police also registered 12 cases to investigate the matter.

Police have rescued Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) leader Sunil Rai from his abductors within 24 hours of his kidnapping and arrested two suspects in connection with his abduction.

A senior official of the Bihar Police said that Rai, who was abducted in Chhapra district of Bihar on Tuesday, has been rescued and the vehicle used in the RJD leader’s kidnapping has also been seized, adding that two people have been arrested in this regard.

The official said that a case under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) has been registered and other person involved in Rai’s abduction would be behind bars soon, adding that further investigation is underway.

On Tuesday, RJD leader Sunil Rai was abducted from his office in Bihar’s Chhapra in the wee hours of Tuesday.

An official statement issued by the Saran Police had said that a group of unidentified assailants abducted the 42-year-old Rai from outside his office near the market committee under Muffasil police station limits around 4:30 am on Tuesday.

They had said a special investigation team (SIT) was constituted to nab the abductors and rescue the politician.

The entire ordeal of Sunil Rai’s kidnapping which was caught on security camera footage shows the kidnappers, at least six in number, lying in wait outside Rai’s office in a white Scorpio SUV. As soon as Rai steps outside, the assailants grab hold of the politician and after a brief struggle by Rai, drag him into their vehicle and escape the scene. The victim’s mobile phone was recovered a short distance away from the scene.

A middle-aged Muslim man died of injuries on Wednesday after he was viciously beaten by a mob in a village of Saran district in Bihar on Tuesday on the suspicion of carrying beef, police said.

As per reports, the victim, 56-year-old Naseem Qureshi, a resident of Hasanpur district in nearby Siwan district and his nephew Firoz Ahmad Qureshi were enroute to meet some acquaintances when they were reportedly intercepted by a rabid mob near a mosque at Jogia village, 110 kms from state capital Patna.

The Uncle-Nephew duo were cornered by the mob and accused of carrying beef, the irate villagers brutally thrashed Naseem Qureshi with lathis (wooden sticks) while his nephew managed to escape with his life. An official said the mob then handed over Qureshi to the cops in Rasulpur village who rushed him to a hospital where succumbed to injuries on Wednesday morning.

The official said that the police has registered an FIR against the accused under Sections 302 (murder), 34 (acts done by several persons in furtherance of common intention and 379 (theft) of the IPC, and arrested three suspects including the local sarpanch Sushil Singh and two others, identified as Ravi Sah and Ujwal Sharma.

However, the victim’s family has alleged that the police are trying to “protect” the accused. Police said that its still investigating if the duo was carrying beef or not and the incident is being treated as a case of mob lynching.

Narrating the horrifying ordeal, Firoz—the nephew of the deceased who managed to flee from the mob—said that a mob led by the local sarpanch halted them at Jogia village accused them of carrying beef. The sarpanch then ordered his men to thrash Naseem and Firoz, he alleged, adding that he managed to escape by outrunning his pursuers.

However, his uncle wasn’t so lucky as the mob managed to catch a hold of him and went on viciously beat him with sticks causing fatal injuries. Firoz said that he went back to the site and witnessed a large mob of local villagers thrashing Naseem. He then went to nearby Rasulpur police station and alerted the cops.

Sometime later, Firoz claimed that he saw a police vehicle carrying his uncle but Naseem wasn’t at the police station when he went looking for him there. He claimed that some people present at the station including the Rasulpur mukhiya (panchayat head) told him that his uncle wasn’t feeling well and has been taken to Daraunda in Siwan.

Firoz claimed that mukhiya mukhiya scolded him, saying that he saved his uncle despite carrying beef. He said that later he found out that Naseem was taken to the Siwan government hospital where doctors referred him to the Patna Medical College for treatment, however, he died of his wounds on Wednesday morning.

The victim’s body was sent to the Chhapra government hospital for postmortem after which it was handed over to his relatives in Hasanpura village.

Naseem’s brother Ashraf Qureshi accused the local police to trying to shield the culprits and demanded a fair probe into the incident.

A shocking story has surfaced from Bihar’s Vaishali area where the father of a martyred soldier was allegedly manhandled and beaten up by the police on February 27. It was reported that the victim was beaten up by the authorities due to the memorial of the martyred soldier.

The man, who was allegedly subjected to police brutality, is the father of a soldier who lost his life in the Galwan Valley transgression.

The father of the soldier has been identified as Raj Kapoor Singh and a case was also registered against him under the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act based on the complaint of a Dalit villager.

Reports said that the family’s neigbour, Harinath Ram, had accused the memorial to have been illegally built.

As per the reports, the CCTV footage has come out which shows the police hauling the father of the martyred soldier into the van. The family of the man has also alleged the police of brutality.

While talking to the media, Singh’s second son had said that the police came and told them to take down the memorial within 15 days. Subsequently, the son added that the police hauled his father, slapped and abused him at night, and took him into custody.

The son said that the police treated his father as if he was a terrorist and said that his father was also beaten up in police custody. Following the police’s actions, the villagers assembled to demonstrate against the police in the matter.

Police’s response

As per the reports, the police told that the authorities acted based on the complaint filed by a Dalit villager who had said that the memorial had obstructed his entrance. The police also said that subsequently after the memorial was built, walls were built around the memorial.

The police also told the media that the authorities had cautioned the man to take the memorial down.

As reports, the statue of the martyred soldier was erected last year in February on the land outside the bereaved family’s home. Various government officials also attended the unveiling ceremony of the statue.

A local Janata Dal United (JDU) leader and his aide were shot dead by unidentified gunmen in Samastipur district of Bihar on Monday, police said.

A senior police official said that the deceased identified as, JDU leader Surendra Prasad Singh and his aide Satya Narayan Singh, came under attack from the gunmen who intercepted them while they were on their way to the Surendra’s brick kiln at his native village in Virsahia ward number 7. The local leader was also a former Mukhiya (village head), he said.

The official said that Surendra Prasad Singh was killed on the spot, while Satya Narayan Singh was referred to Darbhanga Medical College and Hospital for treatment but succumbed to his injuries enroute.

The official further said that a case has been registered in this regard and investigation is underway to determine the cause behind the assassination, adding that the local police have recovered a number of cartridges from the crime scene.

A report quoting Samastipur Superintendent of Police Vinay Tiwari said that an FIR has been registered and police are conducting raids to nab the accused.

Following the killing, locals blocked the blocked Samastipur-Rosera road for four hours by placing burning tyres on the path, demanding justice for the slain leader.

In related news Janata Dal United (JDU) Parliamentary Board Chairperson, Upendra Kushwaha on Monday severed ties with the party after the recent flareup in ties with JDU supremo and Bihar chief minister Nitish Kumar.

In a presser organized to make the announced, the former JDU leader also revealed he was forming a new party—Rashtriya Lok Janata Dal.

Instructions have been issued by the Bihar Police Headquarters to the DMs, SSPs, and SPs of all the districts on the same and stringent action will be taken against those who will upload obscene and provocative Bhojpuri songs on social media, reports said.

Reports further said special vigilance will be taken on festivals like Mahashivratri and Holi and songs that are casteist and hurt women’s sentiments.

The instructions said many casteists and vulgar Bhojpuri songs are surfacing on social media that are an insult to scheduled caste and women. And such singers are glorifying one caste and demean the other creating a possibility of deteriorating social harmony and the environment.

Following this, the Bihar Police Headquarters released the instruction on February 11 in the Bhojpur and Siwan districts and warned of strict punishment for the same.

The decision was taken in view of upcoming festivals like Mahashivratri and Holi and legal action will be taken against those who fail to follow the instructions, reports said.

Recently, violence erupted between two castes in Bihar’s districts of Arrah and Siwan after casteist Bhojpuri songs were played at an event. Reports said Bihar police failed to control the violence which is still prevailing in both districts.

Bihar Police on Tuesday arrested the man who threatened to kill Minister of State for Home Affairs and senior BJP leader Nityanand Rai.

Superintendent of Police (SP) Kumar Manish arrested the accused Madhav Jha from the Hajipur Police Station area early in the morning after his threat video went viral on social media.

In the viral video, the 25-year-old accused was sitting in a room with 3–4 people when he made objectionable remarks about the Union Minister. Not only this, he even expressed his desire to shoot Nityanand Rai during the Shiv Baraat on the occasion of Mahashivratri later this week. Jha, in the video, had spoken of firing two bullets on the leader, said SP.

Nityanand Rai is scheduled to take part in a procession in Hajipur on Mahashivratri on February 18.

SP Manish said the accused claimed he had dreams of killing the minister, which he had disclosed in the video. Soon after the video surfaced on social media, the Nagar Police registered an FIR against the accused under the IT Act.

The police swung into action immediately after that video went viral. They later arrested Madhav Jha, a resident of Goraul, from a flat in Sanchi Patti and are on the lookout for other youths.

SP said they are probing the purpose for which this video has been made, and further investigation is underway.
