Indian opener Mayank Agarwal has been given a call up for the IND vs ENG 5^th Test match in Birmingham. He will be joining the Indian Test squad in UK for the decider match starting from July 1.

Mayank Agarwal, who had missed out on making it to the 15-man squad for the Test match, has been called up as cover for Indian skipper. Rohit Sharma was all set to lead team India in the last Test but the cricketer tested positive for Covid-19 yesterday and hence, his chances of playing the final Test now seems impossible.

On the other hand, Mayank Agarwal will be flying to England today and as per the new rules regarding Covid protocols in international cricket, the Indian opener can skip the quarantine and can be available to play the IND vs ENG 5th Test match.

But Mayank’s form is still a concern for BCCI. The cricketer played his last Test match in March against Sri Lanka. Agarwal could manage to score just 59 runs (33, 4, 22) from three innings of two matches.

Moreover, the 31 years old did not had a good run in the Indian Premiere League 2022 as well. He fared poorly while leading Punjab Kings and scored 196 runs in 13 games. Moreover, PBKS finished at the sixth position in 10-team of IPL 2022.

Moreover, BCCI is yet to announce who would lead team India in the absence of Rohit Sharma. While BCCI seems torn between Rishabh Pant and Jasprit Bumrah, its former skipper Virat Kohli who has got the highest votes by tweeple. Indian fans want Virat to say good bye to Test captaincy with a big win in England. But it will be hard for BCCI to persuade Kohli to do so, especially after the whole Virat vs BCCI episode. However, it will be lovely to see Kohli finishing off what he started.

Team India’s middle order batter Cheteshwar Pujara, who was dropped form the India Test team against Sri Lanka, has made a strong come back in team India after scoring 720 runs in just 5 county matches with an outstanding average of 120 for Sussex. However, the drop was seen as the end of his career but thanks to county cricket that led him to back in action.

Speaking with BCCI, Pujara said his first class stints in Ranji Trophy and County Championships helped him find his lost rhythm and stage a comeback to the national side. He was confident of performing in the county games, as he was already in good form in the Ranji Trophy, India’s test specialist batter said.

Pujara also said he played three games for Saurashtra in the Ranji Trophy. Even there, he found his rhythm and knew that I was batting well.

When a player want to get back into form, find rhythm and concentration, it’s important to have some long innings. When he was playing for Sussex, once he had the first big knock against Derby then he felt that his rhythm was back, Pujara also said.

While in the Ranji Trophy, Pujara scored an 83-ball 91 against Mumbai, he hit 4 centuries, including two double centuries for Sussex in County Championships.

Cheteshwar Pujara along with wicketkeeper batter Rishabh Pant and pacers Jasprit Bumrah and Prasidh Krishna will be representing Leicestershire in the 4-day warm-up match starting on Thursday.

In the backdrop of his show in country cricket for Sussex, Pujara has been included in BCCI’s 17-member Test squad for the fifth rescheduled Test against England to be played at Edgbaston, Birmingham from July 1-5.

Currently India is leading the series by 2-1.
