West Bengal minister Jakir Hossain on Wednesday sustained serious injuries after crude bombs were hurled at him by some unidentified attackers in the Murshidabad district. Hossain is the minister of state for labour and he was attacked in Murshidabad’s Raghunathganj while his convoy was on way to Nimtita Railway station to catch a train to Kolkata. The incident took place under the Suti police station area.

Reports said he was rushed to Jangipur hospital, but is being shifted to a hospital in Kolkata now. News agency PTI reported that Hossain suffered serious injuries on his leg and at least two other persons who were with him were also injured in the attack. The MLA of Jangipur in Murshidabad district and the two other injured persons were taken to Jangipur Sub-divisional Hospital.

Meanwhile, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee visited the injured minister in hospital on Thursday and alleged conspiracy. Slamming the Railways, Banerjee said the ministry can’t avoid responsibility. It is the Railways which is responsible for security within the station, not the state government, the Chief Minister said.

She said the bomb attack on West Bengal Labour Minister was part of a conspiracy because some people were pressuring him to join their party, comparing it to the assassination of Punjab Chief Minister Beant Singh in the 1990s.

A day after the incident, the West Bengal CID has taken over the probe into the case.

West Bengal Governor Jagdeep Dhankhar termed the attack on Jakir Hossain reprehensible and expressed concerns over rising violence in the state.

Railways Minister Piyush Goyal condemned the dastardly bomb attack at Nimtita Railway Station in West Bengal and wished quick recovery of the injured.
