Queen Elizabeth II, the UK’s longest-serving monarch, passed away today after reigning for 70 years. The Queen was hospitalized at Balmoral Castle since last week. According to the doctors, the Queen was under medical supervision and her close family was informed about the doctors’ concerns. Her eldest son, Charles, 73, succeeds as king immediately.

Fears were greying on Thursday after her doctors said that they were concerned for her health and also recommended that Queen should remain under medical supervision. For the unversed, Queen Elizabeth II has been suffering from health problems since last October, which also made it difficult for her to stand and walk.

However, the Queen had a planned meeting with her senior political advisors last night, after being told to rest. Day prior, Queen Elizabeth II also held audiences at her Scottish Highlands retreat, Balmoral, where outgoing prime minister Boris Johnson was present and he appointed Liz Truss as his successor.

After the doctors raised concern over Queen health, Princes Charles and William had travelled to Balmoral, as stated by Kensington Palace.

Heir to the throne Prince Charles, who is 73 years old, was present with his eldest son, Prince William (40) when Queen Elizabeth II took her last breath. The 96-year-old monarch had a long and distinguished life, where she did not only take some momentous decisions but also had the privilege of seeing her great-grandchildren grow up.

The demise of Queen Elizabeth II shocked the world. England has emerged from sorrow and condolence messages have been dropping from all over the world. Several prominent figures have also expressed their grief over the Queen’s death.

Queen Elizabeth II was born on April 21, 1926, at 17 Bruton Street in Mayfair, London. She was the firstborn of the Duke and Duchess of York, who later became King George VI and Queen Elizabeth. After her father’s demise, Elizabeth II acceded to the throne at the age of 25, on February 6, 1952. Her Coronation took place on June 2, 1953, at Westminster Abbey in London.

Prince Philip, the husband of Queen Elizabeth II and the Duke of Edinburgh is going to retire from royal duties this autumn, the Buckingham Palace said on Thursday.

It was Prince Philip himself who announced the decision with the support of Queen Elizabeth II, reported the BBC. Elizabeth II is the longest reigning monarch in British history.

He will not accept any new invitations to attend programmes, but will go for previously scheduled engagements between now and August and will also be accompanying the Queen.

The prince, who will turn 96 next month, has carried out 110 days of engagements in 2016.

Prince Philip, the president or a member of more than 780 organisations will continue to work with them, but “will no longer play an active role by attending engagements”, said the Buckingham Palace spokesperson.

In a press statement, the spokesman said the duke “may still choose to attend certain public events from time to time”.
