Bhartiya Janta Party (BJP) leader Nupur Sharma was suspended from the party yesterday over a controversial remark on Prophet Muhammad on national television during a debate show, which sparked a row and drew a massive backlash from the Gulf countries. Now, a section on social media is now bashing the Qatar government and started trending #BycottQatarAirways on top on Monday.

While reacting to Sharma’s suspension, many users slammed the Qatar airways, asking people to stop using its service. One of the Twitter users wrote that India needs to stop the trade with Gulf countries and teach them a lesson. While another user wrote, those who are trending #BycottQatarAirways, I want to say you fools many labors and Indian workers are working in Qatar, they will get affected, Twitter user added.

Meanwhile, The Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), which considers itself the collective voice of the Muslims across the globe also condemned the objectional statement used by the BJP spokesperson Nupur Sharma. The organization which consists of 57-member criticized India for intensifying the hatred and abuse remarks against Prophet Muhammad. OIC also asked the United Nations to take necessary steps to address the issue.

In a reply to the statement by OIC, the ministry of external affairs (MEA) said that the government of India has categorically rejected OIC’s unwarranted and narrow-minded comments.

It said the Government of India gives the highest respect to all religions in the country.

Meanwhile, the BJP is now doing all the possible efforts to maintain good relations with Gulf countries, especially Arab nations, with Iran, Kuwait, and Qatar who have summoned the Indian ambassadors over its party members’ controversial remarks.
