In a tragic incident, as many as 24 patients, including those infected with Covid-19, died in a hospital allegedly due to the shortage of oxygen supply. The incident took place in Karnataka’s Chamarajanagar district hospital on Sunday night. Distict Incharge Minister Suresh Kumar said they are waiting for the death audit report.

Reports said Chamarajanagar District Hospital faced a shortage of oxygen following which several patients passed away.

Reports suggested that a total of 250 oxygen cylinders were sent to the hospital from Mysore in the middle of the night as an emergency stock as the oxygen cylinders that were supposed to come from Ballari did not reach the hospital due to a delay in supply.

Karnataka Chief Minister B.S. Yediyurappa spoke with the District Collector in Chamarajanagar regarding the incident and has called an emergency cabinet meeting tomorrow.

Meanwhile, reacting on the Chamarajanagar district, former Congress President Rahul Gandhi attacked the central government asking for how long people have to suffer before the system wakes up.

Gandhi offered condolences to the families of the deceased. How much more suffering before the ‘system’ wakes up?, he tweeted.

Karnataka’s COVID-19 tally crossed the 16 lakh mark on Sunday following 37,733 fresh infections while 217 more deaths took the toll to 16,011, the health department said. According to a health bulletin, the state’s COVID tally stood at 16,01,865 whereas there are 4,21,436 active cases.
