Bihar Education Minister Chandra Shekhar triggered outrage on Thursday after he said Ramcharitmanas, a poem written by Tulsidas, spreads hatred in society.

Shekhar was addressing students at the 15th convocation ceremony of Nalanda Open University. He also said the Manusmirit and Ramcharitmanas were the books that divided society in the presence of Bihar governor Phagu Chouhan.

Speaking at the event Shekhar said Ramcharitmanas was opposed as it said that the lower section of society becomes poisonous if they are educated and books like Ramcharitmanas, Manusmriti, and MS Golwalkar’s Bunch of Thoughts created a social divide.

He continued and said any nation becomes great with love and affection and such religious books sowed the seeds of hatred and social divide and this is why people burnt Manusmriti and took exception to a portion of Ramcharitmanas that talks against education for Dalits, backwards, and women.

Chandra Shekhar’s remarks did not go well with the Bharatiya Janata Party which slammed the minister for making such a statement. BJP national spokesperson Shehzad Poonawalla tweeted that Shekhar’s statement is just for the vote bank. He also demanded action against the minister.

BJP OBC Morcha’s national general secretary and state BJP spokesperson Dr Nikhil Anand also reacted to Shekhar’s remark and said coming such a remark from the education minister is surprising took at a university convocation. He further took a dig at the RJD and claimed that the party is doing politics of Muslim appeasement.

Moreover, Ayodhya seer Jagadguru Paramhans Acharya demanded that the minister be sacked.

Earlier, Bihar RJD president Jagadanand Singh triggered a controversy when he said Ayoydhya’s Ram Mandir is being built on the land of hatred. He said Lord Rama cannot be imprisoned in a magnificent palace.

This created quite a stir among the BJP leaders.
