Leena Nair, the former executive of the multinational company Unilever stepped down from the company and has joined the luxury French fashion house, Chanel. At Unilever, Leena served as the Chief Human Resources Officer (CHRO) for a long period of time, while at Chanel, she has joined the company as the Chief Executive Officer (CEO).

These developments at the french fashion house came after the company’s co-owner Alan Wertheimer assumed the role of Global Executive Chairman of the brand. Earlier, Alan was serving as the CEO of Chanel.

Leena herself announced the news of her stepping down from Unilever and joining the luxury French fashion brand Chanel as the new CEO. She informed this via Twitter and thanked Unilever for all opportunities she had during her 30 years at the company. Leena said that she is inspired by what Chanel stands for that it believes in the freedom of creation, in cultivating human potential and in acting to have a positive impact in the world.

Who is Leena Nair?

Before joining Chanel, Leena was the Chief Human Resources Officer and Member of the Leadership Executive at Unilever. In 2021, she was named one of the Most Powerful Women of 2021 by Fortune India.

Born in Maharashtra’s Kolhapur district, Leena Nair studied electronics engineering at Walchand College of Engineering and later graduated from Xavier School of Management in Jamshedpur as a gold medalist.

In 1992, she was a management trainee at Unilever, while in 1993, Leena was appointed as the Factory Personnel Manager of Lipton (India) Ltd.

Three years later, she was appointed as the Employee Relations Manager by Hindustan Unilever Ltd and later in 2000, she became the youngest Executive Director and the first woman in the management committee of Unilever in 90 years in 2007.

Under her leadership, Unilever became the top FMCG graduate employer of choice in 54 countries.
