The teacher’s honor ceremony, organized by the Education Department at Birla Auditorium, Jaipur on the occasion of teacher’s day has become a topic of discussion in the political circles. It was a moment of surprise when the chief minister of Rajasthan, Ashok Gehlot addressed the ceremony and said something so strange that everyone was shocked.

Everybody laughed when the chief minister of Rajasthan, Ashok Gehlot made laugh everyone on the occasion of Teacher’s Day, asking them whether they had to pay money (bribe) for transfer or posting. In response, the teachers in the auditorium replied yes altogether while laughing hard.

At first, CM Gehlot discussed the situation of teacher transfer in the state at an event honoring teachers in Jaipur, saying that teachers shall immediately approach MLAs, who will then persuade the minister. Lately, he asked the teachers about paying the bribe, money and got a huge positive response from the audience who were present in the hall.

Hence, CM Ashok Gehlot was left red-faced with no answers and tried to handle that situation saying that he will surely look into this matter for them.

Nearly 100 Rajasthan Congress MLAs, who have been staying at a hotel near Jaipur since Sachin Pilot launched a revolt against Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot, are likely to be moved to Jaisalmer by a special flight today. The MLAs – Ashok Gehlot claims the support of 102- will be sequestered at the popular tourist draw till August 14, when the Rajasthan assembly session begins.

The Chief Minister is reportedly prepping to face a trust vote in the session, which was called after Governor Kalraj Mishra rejected multiple proposals. Neither Ashok Gehlot nor the Congress have officially suggested a test of strength, even though it is central to their strategy to tackle the rebels who are threatening the government’s survival.

Yesterday, the Chief Minister doubled down on his allegations that Sachin Pilot’s rebel camp is collaborating with the BJP to bribe MLAs to cross over. The “rate of MLAs” had gone up since the assembly session was announced, he said.

“After the assembly session was announced last night, the rates of horse trading have increased. Earlier, the first instalment was of Rs 10 crore and second was of Rs 15 crore. Now it has become unlimited and all know who is doing horse-trading,” Gehlot said.

 Gehlot, keen on proving his majority, wanted a session from today, but finally agreed to the Governor’s condition of 21-day notice. As the Governor cleared his fourth proposal, Gehlot said he was confident of his majority and could prove it anytime, be it after “21 days or 31 days”.

The Chief Minister, who has been guarding his flock rigorously, believes that he can win a trust vote at this time. He has a narrow lead – one over the majority mark of 101 in the 200-member assembly. The rebels contest that and insist that at least 30 MLAs are on their side. So far, only 19, including Sachin Pilot, have made it official.

A court case on six former Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) MLAs who merged into the Congress may impact Mr Gehlot’s tally. The Rajasthan High Court yesterday served notices to them on petitions by the BSP and BJP challenging the merger. They are currently fighting Speaker CP Joshi’s moves to disqualify them based on a Congress complaint accusing them of anti-party activity.

If they attend house and vote against the Congress government, Gehlot could be in huge trouble. The rebels will be disqualified for defying their party whip, but the government will fall if a majority of the house votes against the government, according to the rules.

Sachin Pilot, along with his camp of supporting lawmakers, skipped the Congress legislature meetings in Jaipur on Monday and on Tuesday that recommended action against him and sought to discuss his political fallout with chief minister Ashok Gehlot.

Congress spokesperson Randeep Surjewala on Tuesday said that the party regrets that Pilot and his associates have fallen to the BJP’s trap of destabilising the Gehlot government. Surjewala said, “I regret that Sachin Pilot and some of his associates have been swayed by the BJP’s plot and are now conspiring to topple the Gehlot government elected by 8 crore Rajasthanis. It is unacceptable.”

On Monday, the party tried to pacify the Pilot camp and said its “doors are open” to him or any other party member. Late on Monday evening, in a show of strength, Pilot’s official WhatsApp group shared a short video clip showing at least 16 MLAs sitting together.

The party sent another invite to Pilot on Tuesday, asking him to attend the CLP meeting. During the meeting, in a unanimous resolution, the party decided to remove Pilot from his post of state deputy chief minister and Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) chief and also sacked two other ministers.

Shortly after his removal, Pilot changed his Twitter bio and posted, “ Truth cannot be defeated”. On Wednesday, Pilot said that he does not intend to join the Bharatiya Janata Party and is deciding on the future course of action. “I am not joining the BJP. I would like to make it clear that I have no plans to join the BJP. The BJP link is an attempt to malign me in the eyes of the Gandhis,” Pilot said.

Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot has said he was proud of his MLAs who spurned offers of money and post by the BJP as he accused the saffron party of trying to engineer a coup in the state “like in Madhya Pradesh”.

Gehlot said huge sums of money had reached Jaipur to enable horse-trading in the state and questioned the source of the money. He also said the Congress had the support of 6 BSP and 13 independent candidates and Rajasthan was the first state in the country where no money changed hands.

The Rajasthan government’s chief whip on Wednesday said attempts are being made to destabilise the state government even as Congress MLAs were taken to a luxury resort in Jaipur for a meeting called by Gehlot. The development came ahead of the June 19 elections to three Rajya Sabha seats in the state.

In the assembly of 200, the Congress has 107 MLAs, including six those who defected to the party from the BSP last year. The party enjoys the support of 12 of the 13 Independent MLAs in the state.
