A cockroach was allegedly found in the meal of a four-year-old child served at Delhi’s All India Institute of Medical Sciences. The shocking incident occurred on Sunday night after he underwent major surgery at the hospital.

According to the reports, the child, a resident of Noida, is suffering from Hirschsprung disease, a condition that affects the large intestine and causes problems with the passing stool. The cockroach was found in a meal after he was operated upon.

The child’s mother said the doctors advised her to give them semi-solid food. She said she asked the staff to give a bowl of dal to the child. When she gave him the first time, she found parts of a dead cockroach in it. She said she made his son spit out of the bite immediately.

Sharing a photo of what seemed like parts of a cockroach on the food tray, a Twitter user wrote Pathetic and frightening state of affairs at the most prestigious medical facility in the National Capital serving cockroach dal to a 4-year-old as his first meal post major stomach surgery. She further said she is grateful to the doctors for being there for them for the last two years, but food safety is a big concern. She said she panicked after seeing this and immediately alerted the hospital authorities, who assured her that they would take the strictest action in the case.

The AIIMS administration responded to the allegations by stating that hospital officials have taken serious note of the incident and are looking into the matter.

This is not the first time that there has been a complaint about the sub-standard quality of food being served at AIIMS.
