China gave a miss to a G20 meeting in Arunachal Pradesh on Sunday, reports quoting sources said today. India is the current president of the G20.

As per reports, a confidential G20 meeting of 50 delegates was held in Arunachal Pradesh capital, Itanagar, but China, who claims the northeastern state as it’s territory and a part of Tibet, reportedly skipped the event which was part of the dozens of similar programs planned across 50 cities in India ahead of the G20 summit in Delhi in September.

No statements have been issued yet on China skipping the event neither by India’s foreign ministry nor by Beijing and its presently unclear whether missing the event was China’s way of lodging a protest with India over the meeting being held in Arunachal Pradesh, which the red state has repeatedly claimed as its own despite the outrageous claim being vehemently opposed by India who has reiterated that the border state is its integral part.

The event dubbed ‘Research innovation initiative, gathering’ was organised by the Science and Technology department and had been declared as confidential and media coverage was barred.

The G20 delegates who attended the meeting also visited the state Pradesh legislative assembly and a Buddhist monastery in Itanagar.

In December last year, Indian and Chinese troops stationed along the Line of Actual Control (LAC), clashed in the state’s Tawang sector.

Earlier this month, a resolution passed by the United States Senate termed Arunachal Pradesh as an integral part of India and recognized the McMahon Line as the international boundary between China and the Northeastern Indian state.

The bipartisan Senators’ resolution condemns additional China’s provocations, its use of military force to change the status quo along the LaC, construction of villages in contested areas, publication of maps with Mandarin-language names for cities and features in the Indian state of Arunachal Pradesh, and expansion of PRC territorial claims in Bhutan.

China has repeatedly laid claim that Arunachal Pradesh is their territory, however, the claim has almost every time been shot down at by other permanent members of the United Nations Security Council and other nations.
