In yet another ill-fated tractor-trolley accident, two women died and more than a dozen people sustained injuries while returning from a temple in Madhya Pradesh’s Chitrakoot district on Monday.

The police rushed the critically injured to the district hospital, from where five of them were referred to Prayagraj owing to their serious condition. Apart from this, those who sustained minor injuries have been admitted to a community health center (CHC).

A group of family from the Banda district went to the Bhairav Baba temple in Sejwar, Madhya Pradesh for a Mundan ceremony. While returning, the tractor-trolley overturned near Manpur village in front of a hill. This created a situation of panic among the passengers.

All the devotees got buried under the trolley. Upon receiving information, the police reached the spot along with five ambulances. The officials started the rescue operation and evacuated the pilgrims, but two elderly women died due to being crushed under the trolley.

District Magistrate Abhishek Anand and Superintendent of Police Chakrapani Tripathi inspected the spot of the accident. Later, these officials reached the hospital to take stock of the treatment of the injured. DM Anand has directed the police and transport department officials to carry out intensive checks to ensure people do not travel in tractor-trolleys.

Lesson not learned from Kanpur-accident

A similar incident happened a couple of days ago in the Kanpur district of Uttar Pradesh, where 26 people died after a tractor-trolley fell into a pond.

Following this, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath issued orders restricting the transport of passengers on tractor-trolleys. On Monday evening, Chitrakoot District Magistrate issued similar instructions in a meeting with the officials, but the negligence of people reaching the Navratri fair in tractor trolleys continued.
