Le pupille

The film combines Dickensian, ineffably Italian, and that fair tone acceptable for all audiences but not childish, lined up with the legit and most classic exponents of the Disney universe. It is endearing), but never syrupy.

Le pupille is a lovely Christmas tale that is based on a letter that the Italian author Elsa Morante wrote to a friend. In less than 40 minutes, the director Alice Rohrwacher offers us a poignant, humorous, and insightful tale about that boarding school, its unyielding mother superior (Alba Rohrwacher, most just), and the preparations for her living nativity scene in order to raise money for the convent during that challenging time.

Weekend family

Fred, the protagonist of Weekend Family, an osteopath, is going to find out, is having too many women in his life his nightmare or his fantasy. Are there ex-wife stereotypes at work here?

The dubbing is passable, but the show works best with the original French and quick-fire subtitles. If you chose the dubbed version, it’s still entertaining even though it’s not quite as humorous. Parents and tweens who want to binge on a Parisian family comedy won’t be let down.

Noelle

Although Noelle is entertaining to watch, it relies nearly entirely on the abundance of charm that Anna Kendrick provides to the role.

Miracle on 34th Street
