Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik praised Prime Minister Narendra Modi for the steps taken to eradicate corruption. Patnaik was speaking to the media at the Odisha Literary Festival. He rated the Modi government 8 out of 10. Patnaik appreciated the Centre’s foreign policy and many other matters as well. Patnaik said there had been less corruption in the BJP government.

The Odisha CM spoke on the Women’s Reservation bill. He thought it is a very important step. Patnaik said his party has always supported Women empowerment. He said his father (ex CM Biju Patnaik) had reserved 33 percent of the seats women in the local elections. He stressed on the fact he had increased the women’s reservation to 50 percent.

Patnaik said the BJD had fielded women candidates in 33 percent of the Lok sabha seats in Odisha in the 2019 elections. The BJD president said he supported the central government’s idea of one nation, one election.He said his government welcomed the idea and were prepared for it.

Patnaik was asked about his government’s relationship with the BJP government at the Centre. The Odisha CM said he has a very cordial relationship with the Centre. He said he was interested in the development of the state. Patnaik added the relationship with the Union government is very important for development.

Patnaik said Politics did not had to be dirty. He said it is a tool for serving the people of India. He said the Odisha government leaving no stone unturned for the eradication of poverty and the all round development of the state. Patnaik said the Odisha government had a great programme called Mission Shakti in which 7 million women from Odisha are involved in the empowerment of Women.

Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik was sent an anonymous letter indicating a conspiracy to eliminate him, following which the state government has ordered an enquiry into the matter on Thursday.

The letter threatening to kill Patnaik was sent to his residence Naveen Niwas in Bhubaneswar. The Odisha police has launched an investigation into the matter, and the security at the strategic locations has beefed up in the city.

The letter written in English claimed that some contract killers, who are professional criminals with firearms may attack the chief minister anytime.The killers are equipped with latest weapons like AK-47, semi-automatic pistol, which have been brought to the state, according to news agency PTI.

The person who wrote the letter also claimed that the mastermind of the alleged conspiracy to terminate Patnaik lives in Nagpur, claimed the letter. The sender also gave out a detailed list of 17 cars with registration numbers of West Bengal, Punjab, Haryana, Chhattisgarh, Odisha, Delhi, and Maharashtra in which the contract killers are following Patnaik.

The Special Home Secretary Dr Santosh Bala has asked the state’s director general of police, director general of intelligence and Commissioner of Police of Bhubaneswar to investigate the 

Matter. He said the security of the chief minister at his residence as well as the state secretariat during journey to various places would likely be assessed and further tightened. The chief minister, however, has Z plus security.

Earlier in September 2018, a similar threat was sent to Patnaik. A murder accused who was serving sentence in Bilaspur Central Jail in Chhattisgarh, had sent a letter demanding extortion money of Rs 50 crore from him. He also threatened him with dire consequences if he failed to pay the amount. Later, it was found that the man was charged with 40-odd cases pending against him, was psychopath.
