The National People’s Party (NPP) chief Conrad Sangma on Tuesday took oath as Chief Minister of Meghalaya for the second consecutive term. Prestone Tynsong and Sniawbhalang Dhar, both from the NPP, took oath as deputy chief ministers.

As a member of Conrad Sangma’s government, Sangma received the oath of secrecy from Governor Phagu Chauhan at Raj Bhavan together with 11 other cabinet ministers, including seven NPP MLAs, two UDP MLAs, one BJP MLA, and one HSPDP MLA.

Among those from the NPP who were sworn in as cabinet ministers were Marcuise N. Marak, Rakkam A. Sangma, Ampareen Lyngdoh, Comingone Ymbon, and A. T. Mondal. BJP’s A L Hek, UDP’s Paul Lyngdoh and Kyrmen Shylla, and Shakliar Warjri of the HSPDP also took oath as ministers.

The swearing-in ceremony was held in presence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, BJP president J P Nadda and Assam Chief Minister and NEDA convenor Himanta Biswa Sarma.

Last month, the BJP and NPP contested the Meghalaya Assembly Elections last month separately by later getting into a post-poll alliance to form the new government. The NPP won 26 seats in the 59-member assembly seats.

Nationalist Democratic Progressive Party (NDPP)’s Neiphiu Rio will also take oath as Nagaland chief minister. BJP’s Manik Saha, too, will take oath as the chief minister of the saffron-party-led alliance government in Tripura on Thursday, a day after Holi.
