To control the Covid-19 situation in Mumbai, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has released fresh Covid guidelines in the state, under which the civic body ordered all the suppliers, manufacturers, and sellers of home antigen testing kits to share the data of all the people who are buying Covid-19 home test kits.

According to the official notification by the BMC, it said the civic body has directed people responsible for supplying, manufacturing, and selling home antigen testing kits, to email certain details to the civic authorities and Food and Drugs Administration (FDA) in a prescribed format every day.

As per the order, it is mandatory to report the results of coronavirus tests which are carried out by using rapid antigen test kits in the home to the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) by laboratories or individuals via mobile applications.

The civic body also showed concern over the rising of Covid cases in the state and said people are not reporting the result of the Covid which being carried out by rapid antigen test kits to the ICMR, due to which it is causing the authorities to lose track of patients, which leads to spread the injection even further among the people. In order to break the chain of the coronavirus in the state, it is mandatory to keep track of people who are Covid positive, BMC added in its order.

The new guidelines also stated that the FDA commissioner will monitor all the sales of rapid antigen test kits from all chemists and medical stores in Mumbai and it will ask the distributors to inform their customers to report tests to them through the given application.

The epidemiology cell collects the data received from distributors, manufacturers, chemists, medical stores, pharmacy, it send to the concerned department for further action.

In wake of the surge in Covid-19 cases, the Karnataka government announced on Thursday that it will enforce a night curfew in Bengaluru and six other cities from 10 pm to 5 pm starting Saturday. The decision came minutes after Prime Minister Narendra Modi urged states to announce curbs to tackle the increasing number of Covid-19 infections.

Karanataka Chief Minister B.S. Yediyurappa announced that the curfew, which will be in place till April 20, will also be imposed in cities like Kalaburagi, Mysuru, Mangaluru, Bidar, Tumakuru, and Udupi-Manipal. Essential services will continue, he said.

Karnataka is among 10 states besides Maharashtra, Punjab, Chhattisgarh, Delhi, Tamil Nadu, Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat, Kerala, and Uttar Pradesh, that have shown a steep rise in the daily Covid-19 infections. According to the Union Health Ministry, these states have accounted for 84.21 percent of the record 1.26 lakh new infections on Thursday.

The state has been witnessing a huge spike in Covid-19 infections over the last month with Bengaluru reporting most of the fresh numbers. The city has recorded over 4000 daily coronavirus cases for the past few days. Active cases in Karnataka have now crossed 50,000. Over 50 lakh Covid vaccine shots have been administered so far.

India has administered over 8.48 crore doses of Covid-19 vaccines since the Centre launched the vaccination drive. During this period, 1.02 crore people got both doses of the Covid-19 vaccines, which is not even one percent of the estimated 137 crore population of India. The share of Covid-19 vaccination would go up to around three percent if one-dose beneficiaries are taken into account.
