Dr Reddy’s Laboratories Ltd stated that the Drugs Controller General of India (DCGI) has approved the single-shot Sputnik Light vaccination for Covid-19 in India for restricted use in emergency situations.

Mansukh Mandaviya, the Union Health Minister, released this statement, saying it will help the country battle the pandemic even more effectively. It is 80 percent effective against the infection, higher than that of most two-shot vaccines.

Sputnik Light is the second Covid-19 vaccine to be made available in India by Dr Reddy and has been approved in over 30 countries around the world including Russia, UAE, Argentina, and the Philippines.

Sputnik Light

Sputnik Light, the first component of Sputnik V, developed by Dr Reddy, is a safe and approved stand-alone one-shot vaccine. Sputnik Light is also a leading booster shot for people previously infected with Covid-19 and for revaccinations after Sputnik V or other vaccines.

It is 70 percent effective against the Delta variant and over 70 percent efficacy in the age group below 60. Sputnik Light as a booster increases virus-neutralizing activity against the Omicron variant considerably.

Covaxin

Covaxin is India’s indigenous Covid-19 vaccine by Bharat Biotech is developed in collaboration with the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) – National Institute of Virology (NIV). It demonstrated 77.8 percent vaccine efficacy against symptomatic Covid-19 disease.

Vaccine efficacy against severe disease is 93 percent. In adults aged less than 60 years, efficacy was 79 percent; and in those aged 60 years and over it was 68 percent. Vaccine efficacy against all variant-related Covid-19 disease was 71 percent with an efficacy of 90 percent against Kappa, and 65 percent against Delta.

Covishield

‍Covishield is the Covid 19 vaccine developed by Oxford Astra Zeneca, manufactured at the Serum Institute of India. The efficacy of the Covishield vaccine is 70 percent after the patient is administered with both doses.

Two doses of the vaccine are given four to twelve weeks apart. It can be kept safe at temperatures ranging from 2 to 8 degrees Celsius and is easily accessible.

Corbevax

Corbevax is a recombinant protein subunit vaccine. It is India’s first indigenously developed receptor-binding domain (RBD) protein subunit vaccine against Covid-19, made by Hyderabad-based firm Biological-E.

The vaccine will be effective both in scale and affordability, providing sustainable access to low-and middle-income countries.

Covovax

Covovax is an American vaccine developed by the Serum Institute of India (SII) in Pune, received FDA approval alongside Corbevax. According to the company, the vaccine was more than 90 percent effective in a late-stage clinical trial conducted in the United States.

Johnson & Johnson

Johnson & Johnson has issued an Emergency Use Authorization (EUA) for its single-dose Covid-19 vaccine, developed by the Janssen Pharmaceutical Companies of Johnson & Johnson, to prevent Covid-19 in individuals 18 years of age and older.

The vaccine was 85 percent effective in preventing severe disease across all regions studied, and showed protection against Covid-19 related hospitalization and death, beginning 28 days after vaccination.

Sputnik

Sputnik V is an adenovirus viral vector vaccine for COVID-19 developed by the Gamaleya Research Institute of Epidemiology and Microbiology in Russia. It is the world’s first registered combination vector vaccine for the prevention of Covid-19.

The two doses of V Light Vaccine have a 91.6 percent efficacy rate. The single-dose effectiveness rate is 79.4 percent. The Sputnik vaccine, unlike other similar vaccinations, employs two slightly different forms of the vaccine for the first and second doses, which are given 21 days apart.

ZyCov D

ZyCov D is India’s first needle-free and second indigenous Covid-19 vaccine which was recently launched in Bihar’s Patna. It is the world’s first DNA vaccine manufactured by Zydus Cadila.

It’s a three-dose vaccine and it is to be administered intradermally using the painless PharmaJet needle-free system called Tropis on day 0, day 28, and day 56.
