Noida man facing National Security Act (NSA) proceedings for selling fake remdesivir injections and black marketing other important Covid related drugs across the state.

The man identified as Rachit Ghai was caught by Noida Crime Branch in April for selling fake Covid drugs to the families. An FIR has been filed against Ghai for alleged fraud under relevant sections of the Epidemic Act in Sector 20 Police Station.

During the investigation, Noida police revealed Ghai used to sell fake Covid drugs to the families of those who are desperate need of these Covid drugs that has been prescribed as a life saving drug by hospitals.

Police said Ghai has stocked more than 100 vials of Remdesivir, and he used to sell these drugs at a very high price than the market price. Police said the reason NSA proceedings are initiated because the accused has committed a very serious crime due to which many Covid patients lost their lives by taking fake Covid drugs from Ghai. The injection which comes at the price of Rs 4000 to 5000 thousand, Ghai used to sell them at a cost of approximately Rs 40,000 to Rs 50,000,  police said.

Ghai used to contact patient’s families through WhatsApp, social media platforms to offer his help to supply medicine at the victim’s doorstep.

The injections recovered from Ghai have been sent for examination to the local drug controller facility and it was found that the vials contain more water with less Remdesivir medicine in them.

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath said no the government takes serious actions against those who are doing black marketing of Covid 19 medicines during these tough times.

The Health Ministry on Thursday said, Uttar Pradesh has reported 108 fresh Covid-related deaths, taking the death toll to 20,895 while the Covid infection tally in the state reached 16,95,212 with 1,268 new cases, officials said on Thursday.
