President Ram Nath Kovind on Friday addressed a joint session of Parliament on the first day of budget session. During bis address, President Kovind supported the three new farm maws that have been a bone of contention between the farmers and the Centre for a long time. President Kovind said the new farm laws were brought in after a debate in the Parliament. He said that rights and facilities available to farmers have not been cut short. in fact, the new legislations have provided new facilities and rights to the farmers.

During his address, President Kovind also credited the government for steps taken to control the coronavirus outbreak. He said it is a matter of great pride that India is running the biggest vaccination drive in the world. He said both the vaccines have been manufactured in India. He added the country is leading from front and providing vaccines to other countries of the world as well in this time of crisis, which is great example of humanity.

President Ram Nath Kovind also threw light upon government schemes that have helped people a great deal in getting treatment during the pandemic. He said around 15 million people availed the benefits granted under Ayushman Bharat–Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana. He said with the help of this scheme, the poor were able to save more than Rs 30,000 crore. He said under this scheme, people can avail treatment in more than 24,000 hospitals.

During the session, President Ram Nath Kovind also paid tribute to former President Pranab Mukherjee who passed away last year. He also paid tribute to six members of parliament who passed away during the corona period.

Kovind’s session was boycotted by several opposition parties who are demanding a repeal of farm laws, which have led to agitation across the country.
