Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Sunday threatened Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal with a defamation suit once again as the AAP chief visited the BJP-ruled northeastern state.

Speaking to reporters, Sarma challenged Kejriwal to level the same allegations of corruption against him that he did inside the Delhi Assembly where he’s protected by regulations of the House.

The Assam CM called the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) supremo a “coward” as he “didn’t have the courage” to say anything about the charges he levelled against Sarma in the Delhi Assembly. Sarma challenged Kejriwal to repeat the same allegations outside the House and then he’ll be seeing him in court.

On Friday, Sarma had threated to sue Kejriwal for defamation if the Delhi CM made claims of corruption by the BJP leader outside the Assembly where his “heroism” is confined as he’s protected by privilege.

Sarma also rubbished claims made by Kejriwal and Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann about jobs provided by the AAP regime in Delhi. The BJP leader claimed that the figures were wrong and around 60 percent people in Delhi were “living in hell” whereas 95 percent citizens in Assam are “living in heaven.”

The spat between AAP and the Assam CM started last year when former Delhi Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia alleged that the Sarma-led BJP government in Assam had gifted contracts to Sarma’s wife’s firms and son’s business partner to supply Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) kits above market rates during the Covid pandemic in 2020.

In response, Sarma had a filed a defamation suit against Sisodia and threatened to the same against Delhi CM Kejriwal if he didn’t refrain from spreading “white lies” against the Assam CM.

Kejriwal has been embroiled in several defamation cases over the cases and has issued public apologies for the same multiple times.
