Delhi Patiala House court on Friday granted permission to Jacqueline Fernandez, one of the accused in the Rs 200 crore money laundering case involving jailed conman Sukesh Chandrasekhar, to travel to Dubai from January 27 to 30 to attend a PepsiCo India conference.

The plea stated Jacqueline has been invited to attend the PepsiCo India Conference in Dubai as a star performer for a concert scheduled for Sunday, January 29.

During the hearing, the actor’s lawyer argued that it is necessary for her to travel to Dubai as she was under a contractual obligation and can be sued if she failed to attend the event. He further stated that the Kick actor has recently been nominated for the Oscars which is a matter of pride for the country.

Jacqueline has been barred from leaving the country after she was named in the charge sheet as one of the accused by the ED in connection with the money laundering case.

The hearing came after the Sri Lankan actor filed a fresh plea seeking permission to travel abroad for work commitments. Earlier, the hearing was supposed to take place on Wednesday, however, Additional Sessions Judge Shailendra Malick posted the matter for today after the ED sought time to file a detailed reply to her plea.

Jacqueline had earlier withdrawn her plea for permission to go to Bahrain to meet her ill mother after the court rejected it.

The actor is being questioned by the ED in a Rs 200 crore extortion case involving conman Sukesh Chandrashekhar. There are reports stating that Jacqueline was allegedly in a relationship with Sukesh. Reportedly, Sukesh gave Jacqueline a host of luxurious and expensive gifts, including Gucci gym wear, Gucci shoes, a Rolex watch, 15 pairs of earrings, 5 Birkin bags, Hermes bangles and LV bags, and a fancy Mini Cooper.

Jacqueline Fernandez on Thursday withdrew her plea to travel abroad after Delhi’s Patiala House Court objected over the same.

The Court objected to the actor’s plea and said she can withdraw the application and let the question of charge first be decided otherwise the court will pass a judicial order, the judge said.

The counsel for the Enforcement Directorate objected to Fernandez’s plea and argued that the proceedings in the Rs 200 crore extortion case are at a crucial stage and she may not turn up if she is allowed to travel as she is a foreign national.

Jacqueline Fernandez’s Senior Advocate Siddharth Aggarwal promised to not miss his dates on a single day in the court and accused Sukesh Chandrasekhar will argue for his case on January 6 and Jacqueline’s turn will come later.

The actor had filed a plea seeking permission to travel to her birthplace Bahrain to meet her ill mother and also claimed that her mother has some severe medical issues. She requested permission to travel to Bahrain from December 23, 2022, to January 5, 2023.

The Bollywood actor is one of the accused in the Rs 200 crore extortion case also involving conman Sukesh Chandrasekhar. Earlier, Nora Fatehi was also summoned by the ED on the same matter.

A week ago, Fatehi filed a defamation suit against Fernandez in the Patiala House Court and alleged that the statement given by Jacqueline Fernandez. Fatehi, in her suit, also alleged that Fernandez made baseless claims against her which led to media outlets running false reports and slandering her image.

Meanwhile, Sukesh Chandrasekhar recently claimed that he gave Rs 60 crore to the Arvind Kejriwal-led Aam Aadmi Party during his hearing before Delhi’s Patiala House Court along with Jacqueline Fernandez.

Reports said the conman wrote multiple letters to the Lieutenant General (LG) of Delhi ahead of the MCD polls and made serious allegations against Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal, Delhi Deputy CM Manish Sisodia, Satyendar Jain and Kailash Gehlot.
