A 19-year-old IIT student, who used to stalk and harass young girls and teachers in Delhi, has been arrested by Delhi Police Cyber Cell. The accused attended online classes, joined a prominent school’s WhatsApp goups and shared morphed photographs of the students on social media.

As per reports, the accused has been identified as Mahavir Kumar, son of Manoj Kumar. He is a resident of Guari Bazar in Patna, Bihar. Delhi Police Cyber Cell arrested him from Patna. The accused is a third-year student of B.Tech from IIT Karagpur. According to the police, he has harassed more than 50 girls students and teachers of a reputed school in North Delhi.

The accused used fake instagram accounts, whatsapp, gmail to contact, stalk and harass the girls and teachers. The Cyber cell said that, Mahavir used Hi-Tech Apps for fake Caller ID and Virtual Numbers available on Play Store to contact and harass victims. The accused spoofed the phone numbers of students and regularly spoke to their teachers. Mahavir used fake Instagram accounts, whatsapp groups to circulate the obscene photographs of the students and then blackmailed them.

This investigation took 2 months to arrest the accused. On August 6^th, Delhi Police received a complaint from school principal about the activities of the cyber stalker. “The man was stalking minor girls and also called teachers from different international numbers. The stalker was also spoofing numbers and calling teachers from the numbers of the students. They also informed us in the complaint that the stalker entered WhatsApp groups without the permission of the admin and changed icons. He also posted morphed photographs of many students on different social media platforms,” said Deputy Police commissioner (north) Sagar Singh Kalsi.

The accused first came in contact with one of the students three year ago and started stalking her virtually and through her, he targeted other students and teachers. Police said Mahavir was using fake caller-ID and mobile apps to change his voice, while contacting the girls.
