Former Congress president Rahul Gandhi, in his lecture at Cambridge University in the UK, has launched an attack on the Centre. Gandhi in his lecture claimed that the ruling party is cracking down on the basic structures of democracy.

Gandhi came to rake up the issue about the alleged use of Israeli spyware Pegasus on a number of political figures at Cambridge University. He also said that he himself was subjected to the snooping of Pegasus and as did other politicians.

Gandhi also said that he has been informed by the intelligence officers who raised caveat about the issue and told him to be mindful of the things he is saying on his phone as the call is being recorded. He also added and said that there is constant pressure that the opposition party has to deal with.

The Wayanad MP also said and brought to light the issue of opposition party leaders getting named in cases in India. He added and said that he too has several criminal liable cases against him and further said that it is what he and his allies are trying to defend.

Rahul Gandhi also claimed that restrictions were being put in place in the Parliament, press, and the Judiciary in the country. and said that the people of India know that democracy in India is under attack.

The Congress leader shared a photo of opposition leaders who got arrested and jailed for just standing in front of the Parliament house in a bid to raise issues. He further added and said that there is a lack of discourse in the parliament as well as outside. Gandhi in his lecture also came to rake up the ongoing issue of attacks on minorities and the press and suggested that people can understand what is going on.

Congress leader Rahul Gandhi is on a one-week visit to England where Gandhi will be talking to the Indian diaspora in London on March 5. It was also reported that Gandhi will meet and interact with Indian Overseas Congress members in London which is the overseas unit of the Congress party.
