According to the mosquito-borne disease report released by the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) on Monday, dengue cases have continued to grow in the nation’s capital, with Delhi reporting 105 new cases over the past week.

The weekly figure has increased by two over the past three weeks, with Delhi reporting 56 cases and 24 cases in the two previous weekly cycles, respectively.

The total number of dengue cases reported so far this year is 348 after the addition of 105 new cases.

The number of dengue cases at this time is the largest that has been recorded in the previous six years.

According to the mosquito-borne disease report released by the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) on Monday, dengue cases have continued to grow in the nation’s capital, with Delhi reporting 105 new cases over the past week.

The zonal distribution of these 348 cases reveals that 191 of them originated in MCD districts, 32 in the NDMC zone, 19 in the Delhi cantonment areas, six under the purview of the Railways, and 110 remained untraced despite extensive investigation.

The West Zone, South Zone, and Najafgarh Zones have recorded the most incidences within the MCD jurisdiction boundaries.

Delhi had the second-highest number of dengue infections and deaths in 2021, with 9,613 confirmed cases and 23 related deaths.

When 15,867 cases and 60 fatalities from dengue were reported in the city in 2015, it was the outbreak’s worst ever.

The Delhi government’s health department had carried out dengue virus genome sequencing and discovered that 19 out of 20 samples were type 2 dengue, which is regarded as being more deadly.

Dengue virus has four distinct serotypes: DENV-1, DENV-2, DENV-3, and DENV-4. Type 2 is regarded as the most serious. Doctors advise that the only option in situations of severe dengue is preventive.

Healthcare professionals mainly concentrate on symptomatic therapy, according to Dr. Sumit Ray, chairman of Holy Family Hospital’s Department of Critical Care Medicine and medical director.

In addition to causing low platelets, it can also cause capillary leak syndrome and shock in the patient. Dengue cases typically peak in September and October, but because of flooding and waterlogging brought on by severe rains, more water accumulation sites may have contributed to an increase in the mosquitogenic circumstances, the expert stated.

At this point, according to Dr. Ray, it is crucial to control the condition with preventative measures.

The Delhi government last week opted to reserve 5% of the beds in government hospitals for dengue patients, despite the fact that they claim there is no emergency-like scenario at this time.

The hospitals have been instructed by the health ministry to establish distinct dengue wards.

The government has doubled fines for unregulated mosquito breeding to Rs 1,000 for individuals and Rs 5,000 for business facilities as part of its attempts to stop the spread of dengue.

In the last two weeks, Delhi witnessed a rapid rise in Dengue cases. The national capital has lodged nearly 51 cases of dengue in the past weeks. Considering this alarming surge in Dengue cases, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal conducted a meeting at Delhi Secretariat on Friday. The main objective of the meeting was to formulate a comprehensive strategy to combat the escalating dengue cases that have plagued the city in recent days. As monsoon rains continue to batter, the incidence of dengue and malaria are likely to spike, affecting the health and well being of the people.

Here is the list of food and home remedies that can boost your platelet count:

Green Leafy Vegetables: Green leafy vegetables are considered as a rich source of vitamin K, that plays an important role in the blood-clotting pathway. Furthermore, these vegetables also help in increasing platelet count to some extent. According to experts, parsley, spinach and basil, together with other vegetables such as asparagus, cabbage and watercress are beneficial in increasing platelet count.

Papaya: Papaya and papaya leaves are a well-known natural remedy for thrombocytopenia in several parts of the world. While there are many theories as to why papaya could increase platelets, it is believed that this enzyme-rich fruit significantly increases the activity of an enzyme that is important in platelet production in the bone marrow.

Milk: As it is known, milk is a rich source of calcium and protein. Besides this, it also contains vitamin K, an essential vitamin in the blood clotting mechanism of the body. In addition, it is considered that regular consumption of milk helps to improve total blood platelet counts.

Citrus fruits: Vitamin C plays a pivotal role in how platelets work, therefore increasing your vitamin C levels will help your platelets function better. Notably, vitamin C helps your body to absorb iron, which is an important component of red blood cell production. To increase vitamin C consumption, one can consume plenty of fresh oranges and limes to your diet.

Vegetable Juices: Aloevera juice, carrot juice and beetroot juice are considered to help improve the platelet count.
