As Delhi became the gas chamber and its air quality kept on falling under the severe category, the central government’s air quality commission on Thursday took the charge of the situation and banned all diesel light motor vehicles (LMV) in Delhi and NCR.

The decision comes after a day when the city and some part of the NCR’s Air Quality Index (AQI) on Wednesday reported the average AQI between 458 to 460, which falls under the severe category.

Which vehicle diesel vehicles are exempted?

As per the order, people who are in emergency businesses such as hospitals, providing daily essential services are exempted. Apart from this, vehicles like tempos, trucks and none emergency private vehicles will remain banned till further notice.

The panel also asked in its order to all the industries that are not running on clean fuel to stop their operations till further notice. The order also reported that all the construction works that are being run for in public projects including highways, flyovers, power transmission, and pipelines in Delhi-NCR will also remain banned.

Amid this, there are reports that suggest that in order to combat continuously growing air pollution, the central and state government likely introduce work from home for those employees who are into a digital business.

As Delhi-NCR battles with a thick layer of smog, schools in Delhi have taken a number of precautions to safeguard kids, including the suspension of outdoor activities and the introduction of breathing exercises in the classroom. Because they think it will impede academic achievement, many schools have also chosen against closing.

In order to take strict measures against air pollution, the National Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR) appealed to the AAP-led Delhi government appealed by to close schools until the city’s air becomes breathable.
