Living in the global village of today, it is hard to ignore other cultures and countries if one wants to succeed in not just their professional field, but life in general. Thanks to the internet, immigration and everything that brings us closer to each other, the world has become seamless. We can access all current events, and talk to people from other continents at a touch of our mobiles. Business, too, is becoming more and more global and multilinguality is an asset.

Fortunately, Delhi University is offering short-term courses which are intended to help students get certificates, diplomas and advanced diplomas in foreign languages, alongside their bachelor degrees. Any undergrad can enrol.

What’s available

The University of Delhi provides part-time courses in highly popular and well-loved languages like French, German, Italian and Spanish. The eligibility for such courses requires at least 45 percent in 10+2 degree from CBSE or any other equivalent. Only students enrolled in Delhi University UG courses are eligible for applying for these courses. Due to the popular demand of such courses, there are many colleges that offer these courses. DU also offers courses in Portuguese and Romanian that are taught in Department of Germanic and Romance Studies at Faculty of Arts in North Campus. They can be approached directly for information and enrollment purposes.

North Campus Colleges

There are various colleges in North Campus that offer these courses, such as:

• Daulat Ram College for French, German, Spanish, and Italian
• Hans Raj College for French and German
• Keshav Mahavidalaya for French and German
• Mata Sundari College for French, German, and Spanish.
• Miranda House for French, German, and Spanish.
• Ramjas College for French, German, Spanish, and Italian
• Satyawati College for French and German
• SGTB Khalsa College for German and Spanish
• Sri Guru Gobind Singh College for French and German
• Stephen’s College for French and German

South Campus Colleges

The colleges that can be approached for these courses are:

• Acharya Narendra Dev College for French, German, and Spanish
• Bharti College for French and German
• College of Vocational Studies for French and German
• Delhi College of Arts and College for French, German, and Spanish
• Gargi College for German
• Jesus and Mary College for French
• Kamla Nehru College for French
• Sri Venkateswara College for German

The course is made up of 206 hours, with 116 hours devoted to teaching theoretical concepts and the rest of the 90 hours kept especially for practical training. The classes are for four hours once a week, with a total of 23 weeks and two workshops of 12 hours each every semester. The fees for certificate language courses can range from INR 15,000 to 20,000. The registration process for such courses start after the normal admission process is done with, but a tab on the college’s websites and admission block should be kept to gather more information. The university also provides BA, MA, MPhil, and PhD courses in various foreign and Indian languages.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row]
