A Labrador dog in Madhya Pradesh’s Hoshangabad will undergo a DNA test to put an end to an ownership dispute.

Two people in Madhya Pradesh claimed they owned the dog. The Madhya Pradesh Police has decided to perform the DNA test of a three-year-old dog to end the dispute between two people.

Reports said Kartik Shivhare, an ABVP leader, and Shadab Khan, a journalist by profession, both claim that the dog is theirs.

Khan alleged that his missing black dog, named Coco, was held captive at Shivhare’s home. He also claimed that Shivhare was trying to sell him off.

On the other hand, Shivhare’s family claims that the dog is theirs and his name is Tiger.

Recently, Khan traced the dog to the house of Shivhare and went to his house to take the dog back, but the latter resisted claiming that they own the dog.

Hoshangabad Dehat police the station, in-charge, Hemant Shrivastava said that about three months ago Shadab Khan had lodged a complaint about his missing three-year-old dog Coco.

On November 18, he claimed to have found his dog in the house of an Akhil Bhartiya Vidyarthi Parishad [ABVP] leader Kratik Shivhare. Shadab called the police and took the dog with him. Later, on November 19, Shivhare reached the police station and claimed that the dog belonged to him. He said the dog’s name Tiger and he purchased the dog from Itarsi a few weeks ago, Shrivastava was quoted as saying by the Hindustan Times.

The dog is responding to both the names, Shrivastava added.

As neither of them is willing to back out for two days, the police have decided to perform the DNA test on the dog. Shadab Khan said the parent of the dog was in Panchmarhi while Shivhare said the parent of his dog was in Itarsi, the police officer said.

The police collected DNA samples of the dog on Saturday. Investigations are being conducted. Police will hand over the dog to its genuine owner after DNA reports come in, the police officer said.
