US Vice-President Kamala Harris’ niece, Meena Harris has reacted to the protests against her post in support of the ongoing farmers’ agitation on social media on Thursday. 

Reacting to a photo where protesters have set fire to her pictures, she tweeted that she won’t be intimidated and silent. She said she spoke out in support of human rights for Indian farmers and now look at the response.

The American lawyer has been tweeting regularly since an international media report on the internet being suspended near farmers’ protest sites and Indian government’s crackdown came in light. She tweeted that it’s no coincidence that the world’s oldest democracy was attacked not even a month ago, and as we speak, the most populous democracy is under assault. She had said that everyone should be outraged by India’s internet shutdowns and paramilitary violence against farmer protesters.

Not only her, Rihanna, Swedish climate activist Greta Thunberg, and many others took to their Twitter and extended their support to the ongoing farmers’ protest in India on Tuesday. Following which an outrage sparked on social media with the Indian government releasing a statement, saying that there are some vested interests groups who are trying to enforce their agenda on the protests.

The External Affairs Ministry of India has recently said that before rushing to comment on such matters, we would urge that the facts be ascertained, and a proper understanding of the issues at hand be undertaken. 

Moreover, a slew of Indian celebrities like cricketers Virat Kohli, Sachin Tendulkar among others with the hashtags “IndiaAgainstPropaganda” and “IndiaTogether”, have extended support to the government. 

A group of people supporting the government led a protest against the international figures who spoke on the farmer protests. The images have surfaced where they have burned the pictures of Meena Harris, Rihanna, etc.

Meanwhile, the Delhi Police has launched an investigation into a toolkit, tweeted by Greta Thunberg, which it said was authored by a Canada-based Khalistani outfit.
