The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) predicted the National Capital will be in a shroud of dense fog as the forecast signaled a fresh spell on Friday. According to reports, Delhi will witness dense fog starting January 14 and the spell for cold waves will begin from January 15.

It was also reported that owing to the cold wave conditions, the temperature is likely to make a dip by 3 to 5 degree Celsius in the next 3 days.

Aside from Delhi, the fog will also be witnessed in various parts of North India including Punjab, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh and Bihar in the next five days.

The IMD in a weather bulletin wrote that dense fog is very likely in isolated pockets during night and morning hours over Rajasthan, West Bengal, Sikkim, Odisha, Assam, Meghalaya and Tripura in the next 2 days. Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand will face a similar predicament from 15th-18th.

Whereas North of Madhya Pradesh will also be affected by the fog starting from 16th-18th.

The news of dense fog gripping the cities comes days after the warning of severe cold wave conditions to begin in North India. According to reports, the Meteorological Department has also raised an alarm for severe cold wave conditions to prevail in various parts of north india which include North Rajasthan, Himachal Pradesh, Haryana, Chandigarh, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh.

Apart from this, the IMD also forecasted isolated drizzling over Arunachal Pradesh, Assam and widespread rainfall/snowfall in the western Himalayan side.

According to various reports, the temperature dip in North India attributed to the cold wave, can even go below to -4 degrees. If the weather conditions prevail according to the forecast, then the unprecedented weather conditions in North India will go down in the history books as it has never happened before.

It is reported that severe cold weather will be witnessed starting from January 14 and 19 and the cold weather conditions will be at its peak from 16 to 18.
