In a bid to increase its user base in India, popular streaming app Netflix will provide free access for two days to non-subscribers in December. During this period, they can watch any show or series without entering their card details or any subscription. Users will also be able to browse through entire catalogue of the app including the movies, documentaries and shows during the 48-hour period from December 5 to December 6.

The free weekend will be termed as Streamfest during which users can access one standard-definition (SD) stream of the application. However, there is a catch as there will be a cap on the number of free viewers.  Netflix is yet to reveal how many users will be able to access the Streamfest at the same time. To get the access, users will have to sign up using their name, email or phone number and password on the dedicated page for Streamfest. The registered users can stream the content for free on various platforms like smart TV, gaming console, IOS and android apps. However, they will be restricted to a single stream in standard definition (SD).

Through the Streamfest, Netflix aims to enlarge its user base in the country. Netflix chief operating officer and chief product officer Greg Peters said that the video streaming platform is looking to expose a bunch of new people to its shows and services in the hope they will sign up after seeing the amazing content Netflix has to offer.

Earlier this year, Netflix had stopped its 30-day free trial in India. The company, however, started a number of pocket-friendly plans in a bid to attract more users. The company also introduced a low-cost mobile streaming plan at Rs 199. Netflix is currently one of the most popular streaming apps in India alongside Disney + Hotstar, Amazon Prime, Voot, Zee5 and Alt Balaji among others.
