Veteran lawyer Harish Salve on Wednesday tied the knot with UK-based artist Caroline Brossard in a simple church wedding. Salve chose a three-piece suit for the ceremony, while his bride opted for a white gown for the big day. The wedding was attended by only 15-odd people as per the rules that are in place in view of the coronavirus pandemic.

Salve, who is considered one of the finest lawyers in India, began his career in the 1980s at J B Dadachandji. He started out as an intern and later became a full-time lawyer. He was later designated as a Senior Counsel by the Delhi High Court. One of the most sought after lawyers in the country, Salve took up Salman Khan’s hit-and-run case. The actor was sentenced to five years in jail in 2002 in the accident case which left one person dead and five others injured. However, Khan was acquitted of the charges in 2015.

In May 2017, Salve represented India before International Court of justice in the Kulbhushan Jadhav case. Jadhav has been sentenced to death for spying by a Pakistani military court. Following salve’s arguments a provisional stay was ordered by the ICJ on Jadhav’s execution till final verdict is announced. The prominent lawyer charged only Re 1 for the case, which earned him high acclaim.

During the lockdown, Salve appeared in the Supreme Court for various high-profile cases. He was recently in news for representing Facebook vice president Ajit Mohan in a case against the Delhi Legislative Assembly.

65-year-old Salve had divorced his wife of 38 years, Meenakshi in June this year citing irreconcilable differences. The couple has two daughters from their marriage. It is a second marriage for Brossard as well who has an 18-year-old daughter from her first marriage. The couple met at an art event in North London and were in a relationship for more than a year before taking the vows.
