Chief Minister of Haryana Manohar Lal Khattar on Monday talked about the Centre for Monitoring Indian Economy (CMIE) unemployment reports and termed them to be baseless and beyond facts. Haryana CM’s remark on the CMIE reports comes after the report had placed Haryana at the very top of Unemployment ranking with 37.4 per cent in December.

Khattar, while claiming the CMIE report to be baseless and beyond facts, also added that the figures were based off of a very small survey. The CM also said that the state government has hiked the annual income limit of BPL families from Rs 1.20 lakh to Rs 1.80 Lakh and said it was unprecedented for Haryana to increase the income of BPL families as it hasn’t been done before in the country.

He also highlighted and said that due to the state government move on BPL income hike, there was an increase by 12 lakh new families which tallied up to 29 lakh BPL families in total.

In the disproportionate assets case, the former Haryana CM and INLD supremo Om Prakash Chautala got 4-years of jail. The order was pronounced by the Rouse ASvenue court in New Delhi. He also needs to pay a fine of Rs 40 lakh and his 5 properties have also been attached.

It is reported that his properties of Hailey road, Panchkula, Gurugram and Asola will be attached. Other than this, he also needs to give Rs 5 lakh to CBI and if he couldn’t give it then his jail tenure will extend for 6 more months.

In court, Chautala has asked for leniency owing to his age factor and his deteriorating health. He also requested the court to take into consideration the term he has already served in the JBT teachers recruitment scam and also about completing his class 10th and 12th education from the Tihar jail.

The CBI has said that between 1993 and 2006, Chautala, who has been the seven-time MLA collected assets worth over Rs 6.09 crore and more as his known source of income. However, the Chautala family keeps claiming that this case is a political vendetta.

Chautala has been named in several cases and in 2008, the seven-time MLA and others were charged in connection with the appointment of 3.206 junior basic trained teachers in Haryana from 1999 to 2003. After this, in 2013, the court sentenced Om Prakash Chautala and his son Ajaya Singh Chautala to ten years’ imprisonment under various provisions of the IPC and the Prevention of Corruption Act. It is reported that at that time Chautala was found guilty of illegally recruiting over 3,000 unqualified teachers.

In other news, looks like a political crisis is again taking place in Rajasthan Congress. Recently, the state minister for sports and youth affairs, skill development, employment, entrepreneurship and disaster management shared a tweet in which he appealed to Rajasthan Chief Minister that he should free him and should give all his departments to Kuldeep Ranka, the Principal Secretary to the Chief Minister.

Farmers, who have been camping at Delhi borders against the Centre’s three farm laws, on Wednesday, clashed with BJP workers when they were carrying out a procession on a flyway. The incident took place at the Ghazipur border between Delhi and Uttar Pradesh.

The eyewitnesses said that both sides fought with sticks which led to some injuries, whereas pictures and videos circulated online shows some damaged vehicles which were a part of a BJP leader, Amit Valmiki’s convoy.

However, farmers’ organization Bhartiya Kisan Union said the BJP workers raised anti-farmer movement slogans on the pretext of welcoming the BJP leader after gathering in large numbers at the Ghazipur border flyway. They (BJP workers) attacked farmers with sticks when BKU workers objected. Farmers have been injured in the incident, the BKU tweeted in Hindi.

The farmers’ body also alleged that the BJP wants to break the movement by violence and today’s episode is an example of the saffron party’s conspiracy. All farmers are requested to not come under their influence and keep the movement going, the BKU further said.

Meanwhile, Samyukta Kisan Morcha (SKU), an umbrella body of 40 farmers’ unions, spokesperson Jagtar Singh Bajwa claimed the BJP workers misbehaved with farmers and themselves damaged their vehicles as part of a conspiracy. This conspiracy of the government is not going to succeed because such tactics to end the farmers’ protest have been used in the past too, Bajwa said.

Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar termed the incident as undemocratic and condemned it by saying, the word Kisaan is pure and everyone holds them in high regard. Due to a few unfortunate incidents the word has become tarnished. Dignity of sisters and daughters is taken away, murders are happening, roads being blocked.

Reacting to the incident, Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav said that it was a desperate attempt by BJP to defame the farmers and their movement. The public is now aware of the BJP’s tactics and it won’t get anything by defaming farmers. This is the gruesome face of BJP’s frustration, he tweeted in Hindi.

The government has projected the new laws as major reforms in the agriculture sector that will remove mandi system and middlemen and allow farmers to sell their produce anywhere in the country. However, the protesting farmers argue that the new laws have no mention of minimum support price (MSP) and the mandis that will leave them at the mercy of big corporates.

Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar on Tuesday said that it is useless to debate over the number of Covid deaths at this moment and the focus should be on ensuring that more affected people recover from the disease. Khattar dubbed pointless allegations that his government was tampering with the data on Covid-related deaths in his state to suppress the overall figures.

While visiting to check the condition of health facilities in Hisar on Monday Khattar told reporters that the government don’t want to tinker with data. He said instead of debates over data, we should focus on how people recover from the disease.

While replying to questions on whether the number of Covid deaths is actually more than the official figures, he said those who died will never come back. There is no point of debating if the number of deaths is actually more or less. He said the government will try their best to save everyone in the state.

Referring to the five deaths in the district on Monday allegedly due to a shortage of oxygen, he said the limitations of the available infrastructure must be taken into consideration. Five Covid-19 patients died in a private hospital due to the shortage of oxygen while the state government denied hospital authorities death claim due to oxygen shortage and ordered a magisterial probe.

Khattar also denied the allegation that his administration was being unresponsive to queries about the disease and its impact. He said on Monday that there is no shortage of medical oxygen in the state while assuring people that the state government was geared up to ensure people do not face any problem amid the raging coronavirus pandemic.

Besides Khattar’s claim of no medical oxygen shortage in the state, Haryana deputy chief minister Dushyant Chautala written to Union Minister Piyush Goyal and requested him to include remdesivir, oxygen and other items used to treat Covid-19 patients in the Essential Commodities list.

In Haryana, the latest deaths included nine from Hisar, seven each from Gurgaon and Sirsa and six each from Faridabad, Sonipat and Fatehabad districts.

The Haryana police on Sunday attempted to disperse protesting farmers at a toll near Karnal, ahead of Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar’s visit to nearby Kaimla village. The video footage showed police firing tear gas shells, using batons, barricades and water cannons on farmers who are trying to enter the Kaimla village. Farmers were carrying black flags and shouting slogans against the BJP-led government.

From the early hours of Sunday, heavy police deployment was seen at the Kaimla village where Haryana Chief Minister is scheduled to hold meeting with farmers who have gathered there to show support for the new farm laws that have triggered nationwide unrest.

On Friday, the protesters had clashed with local BJP workers who were promoting Khattar’s visit. The face-off started when the villagers didn’t allow the farmers to enter into the village to register their protest.

Haryana chief minister Manohar Lal Khattar is scheduled to address a farmers’ gathering at the village to inform them about the benefits of the three farm laws passed in September. The Central government had decided to conduct a huge outreach programme to dispel misconceptions about the laws.  However, over the last week, the Chief Minister’s outreach programme had run into trouble in this area as farmers hardened their stance in Delhi.

BJP-ruled Haryana had made headlines in November when it decided to stop the farmers on way to Delhi from across the state as well as those in Punjab. Reports and video footage of police clashing with farmers, employing barricades, water cannons, tear gas, and batons circulated for days after the incident.

Last week, Haryana police used tear gas to disperse protesting farmers in Rewari district, as they were marching towards Delhi to join the farmers’ stir.

Asking to stop Kisan Mahapanchayat in Kaimla village, Randeep Surjewala had asked the Haryana government to not play with sentiments of those who provide them with food. He further asked the government to stop meddling with the law and order situation.  He tweeted that if the government wants to communicate something, it should do it with farmers who have been staging the protest at borders for the last 46 days.
