The country has been witnessing a major surge in coronavirus cases and amidst this, Haryana’s health minister Anil Vij on Sunday blamed Delhi for the surge in coronavirus cases in Haryana. He said that the infection rate is very high in three districts of Haryana that are adjoined with Delhi.

Anil Vij also said that Haryana has adequate health arrangements to deal with rising cases and whether a patient comes from Delhi or anywhere else, he is being given complete treatment in the state.

Reacting to Anil Vij’s statements, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal said that blaming will not end the virus. He further said that he will not step into this garbage.

Meanwhile, Delhi on Sunday recorded 18,286 new cases and 28 deaths in the last 24 hours. Active cases have declined to 89,819. Currently, the positivity rate stands at 27.87 per cent in the national capital.

Delhi Health Minister Satyendar Jain on Monday said that Delhi is likely to witness 4,000-5,000 fewer cases than Sunday’s count of 18,286 cases. Recently, in order to implement Covid-appropriate behaviour strictly in markets, all districts have adopted a new strategy called Information, Education, and Communication (IEC). Under this, authorities will educate violators about the importance of following Covid guidelines in public areas.

In other news, as state board examination is round the corner, the Bihar state government had decided to gear up the vaccination drive for children between 15-18 years. The state board said that the students who are likely to appear in the Board examination will get their jabs for Covid-19 before January 26, 2022. The health department had issued a letter to all the district magistrates (DMs) and civil surgeons for constituting a task force for vaccinating board students in the age group of 15 to 18 years on a priority basis.

Amid a row over Yoga guru Ramdev’s comment against allopathy, Haryana government has announced that one lakh Coronil kits of Patanjali Ayurveda will be distributed among Covid-19 patients in the state free of cost.

State health minister Anil Vij tweeted, One lakh Patanjali Coronil kits will be distributed free of cost among the Covid patients in Haryana. Half of the cost of Coronil has been borne by Patanjali and half by Haryana government’s Covid Relief Fund, he wrote.

Ayurveda-based Coronil was introduced by Ramdev on June 23 last year. The Coronil kit contains three items– Coronil tablets, Swasari Vati and Anu Taila. During its launch, Coronil generated controversy, with Ramdev claiming that it was the first evidence-based medicine for Covid-19 made in the presence of Union Health Minister Harsh Vardhan.

Recently, Ramdev made a vitriolic statement on allopathy which drew flak from many medical associations. Harsh Vardhan in the strongly worded letter, also condemned his remarks on allopathic medicine as extremely unfortunate, following which the yoga guru withdrew his statements.

Meanwhile, Haryana has been witnessing a surge in Covid cases in its rural areas. The situation, which according to the state’s BJP government, has occurred due to the farmers’ continued participation in the protest against the Centre’s farm laws. 

Addressing the ongoing shortage of oxygen supply in the state, Vij has said pressure swing adsorption (PSA) oxygen plants will be set up in eight districts of the state in collaboration with the central government. The plants will be set by DRDO and will be completed by June 30, he said.

The setting up of these plants will help in supplying oxygen to 6,210 beds, including 550 beds at Government Aided Medical College Maharaja Agrasen Medical College Agroha, 750 beds at AIIMS Jhajjar, 550 beds at Kalpana Chawla Government Medical College Karnal, Hisar, 550 beds in Military Hospital (MH), Ambala, 652 beds at SHKM Government Medical College Nalhar, 658 beds at Western Command Chandimandir, Panchkula and 2,000 beds at PGIMS Rohtak.

Haryana Home and Health Minister Anil Vij on Thursday appealed to farmer union representatives to call off Chakka Jam planned for Saturday and come forward for a dialogue to resolve the issue. Speaking to the media in Gurgaon on Thursday morning, Vij said even the international issues are resolved through dialogue for which the Modi government is always ready.

Referring to PM Modi’s statement, he told the reporters that the Prime Minister has said the roads for dialogue are always open so the protesting farmers should come forward for dialogue. He said everyone has the right to demonstrate and stage protests in a democracy but the protest must be ensured others right. He said the common public should not experience sorrow and difficulty due to protest at roads and highways.

The Health Minister also alleged that the farmers’ protest has turned into a place where political leaders are baking their bread. Criticising the opposition, Vij said the protest sites at Delhi borders has become a platform for political parties where leaders are going there for breaking their breads. He also said all these parties don’t want a solution to be found, they want to take every step by which the fight can continue.

The Health Minister was speaking to the media after inaugurating the second phase of the coronavirus vaccination drive, which will see frontline workers, including police personnel and workers of the Municipal Corporation of Gurugram (MCG), being vaccinated.

Haryana health minister Anil Vij, who was undergoing treatment for Covid-19 at Post Graduate Institute of Medical Sciences (PGIMS) in Rohtak, was shifted to Medanta Hospital in Gurgram after his condition deteriorated on Tuesday following plasma therapy.

PGIMS Rohtak medical superintendent (MS) Dr Pushpa Dahiya said the minister was on minimal oxygen therapy when admitted to hospital on Saturday. However, his condition started declining soon after with the infection spreading to both lungs. She said he was administered oxygen therapy, steroid therapy and antibiotics at the hospital but a few parameters showed no improvement. Vij’s family insisted on shifting him to a private facility following decline in his condition.

Dr Dahiya said high-end equipment was required to treat Vij as he also has cardiac issues. The family was given an option of shifting him to AIIMS or Medanta Hospital, and they decided to go ahead with the private facility in Gurugram. She said Vij was in critical condition while being shifted from Rohtak and was on high-flow oxygen therapy. She said he was talking normally but there was involvement of both his lungs.

Last month, Anil Vij had received the first of two doses of Bharat Biotech’s Covid vaccine covaxin. He tested positive a few days later, which raised several questions about the efficacy of the vaccine. However, both the Union Health ministry and Bharat Biotech stressed that the minister had received only first dose of the Covid vaccine and efficacy of the vaccine against the virus could be determined only after two full doses are administered.

The Union Health Ministry had said that Covaxin is a two-dose vaccine and the antibodies against the infection start building up only after a specific number of days following the second dose. Bharat Biotech is currently conducting phase-3 trials of the vaccine crossed the 99-lakh mark.

Haryana health minister Anil Vj has tested positive for the coronavirus, two weeks after receiving the trial dosage of coronavirus vaccine Covaxin. Vij took to Twitter to inform about the illness and asked everyone who had come in close contact with him to get tested. Vij is currently undergoing treatment at Covil Hospital in Ambala Cantt.

Vij was given trial dosage of Bharat Biotech’s Covaxin on November 20 after he expressed his wish to become the first volunteer for the Phase-3 trials of the vaccine being conducted in partnership with the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR).

The trials are currently underway across India. In this phase 26,000 volunteers will be administered the vaccine. Trial volunteers will be administered two intramuscular injections about 28 days apart. Covaxin is being developed by Bharat Biotech in collaboration with ICMR.

Earlier in August, Haryana chief minister Manohar Lal Khattar had tested positive for the coronavirus. Meanwhile, Covid infections in India have crossed the 96 lakh-mark. The country has reported 36, 652 cases and 512 death in the past 24 hours. the death toll in country has now reached 1,39,700.

India continues to remain the second worst affected country in the world due to Covid-19. However, the country has one of the highest recovery rates in the world as more than 90 lakh people have already recovered from the disease.

Earlier on Friday, prime minister Narendra Modi said the coronavirus vaccine will be available for administration within a few weeks. He said the frontline workers, health workers and elderly people will be the first priority of the government for immunisation.  Oxford-AstraZeneca’s vaciine being produced by the Serum Institute of India is currently the front-runner in the race for vaccine. The vaccine might be given emergency approval for administration soon.
