Punjab chief minister Bhagwant Mann is hogging headlines after he mispronounced Harvard University as Hayward while addressing a function in the state.

A video is doing rounds on the internet wherein the CM can be heard saying that teachers of schools in the state should be sent to foreign universities like Oxford, ‘Hayward’ for professional training. He also said that this initiative will be sponsored by the state government.

Mann said that the educators will be sent in batches of 70-100 to Switzerland, Finland, Singapore, and top universities such as Oxford and ‘Hayward’ for professional training at the cost of the government.

Soon after the video went viral on social media, users started trolling the Punjab CM and connected his mispronouncing with alleged drinking habits. One user wrote that Hayward (beer) is a better choice. Another user wrote that the biggest takeaway from this speech was that not many were aware of Hayward beer before.

Yet another user wrote that Mann’s mispronouncing was pun intended.

For those who don’t know, Bhagwant Mann has landed in a soup for his alleged drinking habits several times. Last month the Shiromani Gurudwara Parbandhak Committee had alleged that Mann entered into Takht Damdama Sahib gurudwara in an inebriated condition and demanded an apology from the CM.

In 2016, former Punjab chief minister Captain Amrinder Singh alleged that the comedian-turned-politician went to parliament drunk. Earlier, former AAP leader Yogendra Yadav had also claimed that Mann entered a Lok Sabha session in an inebriated condition.

Aam Aadmi Party leader Bhagwant Mann was elected as the Punjab CM in Assembly Elections 2022. He joined the Arvind Kejriwal-led party in 2014 after resigning from PPP.
