Chattisgarh Chief Minister Bhupesh Bhagel addressed a media press conference in the wake of the grand old party’s lead in Himachal Assembly Elections on Thursday. In his address, the Congress leader raised caveat about defection and also told the media that the party has to be careful of BJP’s alleged horse-trading attribute.

As the vote counting continues in the favor of Congress in the Himachal Assembly elections on Thursday, reports surfaced which hinted toward the grand old party transferring their Himachal winning candidates to Chhatisgarh in fear of them being poached by the Saffron Party.

The Chhatisgarh CM has, however, quashed the rumors by stating that the party is not planning to bring the winning candidates to Chhatisgarh. But he did raise concern over the BJP’s horse trading practices and told the media that the party would have to take care of the candidates.

Bhagel, further was asked about his take on the voting trends in the Himachal Elections to which he rebuted that it won’t be wise to say anything even as vote counting is still underway, however, the party had hoped to assume incumbency in Himachal Pradesh and can see it can see it happening.

Himachal Elections

According to reports, the grand old party are pulling ahead in the voting trends as they plan to unseat the BJP from Himachal Pradesh. The Congress Party are leading in 39 seats which surpasses the majority mark. The ruling BJP, according to trends, are trailing behind by leading only in 26 seats.

Himachal Pradesh’s tradition to vote out incumbency after every 5 years have turned in the favor of the grand old party in 2022 Himachal Pradesh Assembly elections. The BJP on the other hand had initially started in a seesaw battle with the Congress however, the grand old party pulled away in the end as they lead in 39 seats.

The Himachal Pradesh election were held on 12 November and the Votes were scheduled to be counted on December 8.

Bharatiya Janata Party released its manifesto on Sunday for the upcoming Himachal Pradesh Assembly Elections. BJP President JP Nadda announced the manifesto, ‘Sankalp Patr’, at Hotel Peterhoff in Shimla.

Union Minister Anurag Thakur, Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur, and State President Suresh Kashyap were also present at the event.

The BJP has promised 11 commitments in its manifesto which include 33% reservation of women in government jobs, empowerment of farmers and youths, promoting religious tourism, and others.

Key highlights of the manifesto consisting of 11 commitments if the party comes into power

  • The party will introduce Uniform Civil Code in Himachal Pradesh.
  • Rs 3,000 per annum will be provided to farmers under the Mukhyamanatari Annadata Samman Nidhi.
  • 8 lakh jobs will be provided to the state in a phased manner.
  • 5 new medical colleges will be established in the state if BJP is voted to power.
  • Girl students in classes 6-12 will be provided with a cycle and those pursuing higher education will get scooty.
  • 33 per cent reservation for women in government jobs.
  • The party will also ensure connectivity of all villages with all-weather roads with an investment of Rs 5 lakh crore.
  • Rs 12,000 crore will be invested to develop infrastructure and transportation around religious places in Himachal Pradesh under the name Shakti.
  • Mobile clinic vans will be doubled in every constituency in the state.
  • Ex-gratia to be increased for the families of martyrs.
  • GST payment for apple packaging is to be at 12 per cent and additional GST will be paid by the government.
  • Discrepancies in the remuneration of government employees will be eliminated.
  • Waqf properties in the state will be investigated as per law and illegal usage will be stopped.

Himachal Pradesh Assembly Elections will be conducted in a single phase on November 12 and the counting of the votes will take place on December 8.
