An Assistant Sub-Inspector in Punjab’s Hoshiarpur district allegedly shot himself with his service revolver inside a police station and died on Saturday morning after allegedly being humiliated by his senior.

The deceased has been identified as Satish Kumar. Before committing suicide, the 52-year-old ASI also recorded a video, wherein he shared the reason for ending his life. The officer reportedly shot himself at 10 am.

The ASI, posted in Hoshiarpur police station, alleged that his senior and Tanda police station SHO Onkar Singh hurled abuses at him during an inspection on Thursday.

In the video, Kumar said Tanda SHO visited the police station on September 8 for the late-night checking. The SHO called him, he was sleeping in government quarters and reached there in 10 minutes.

The ASI alleged that the SHO asked him unnecessary questions and humiliated him. The SHO told him that rather than insulting him like that, it would have been better if he had just shot him, the ASI Kumar can be heard saying in the video.

The SHO inquired him about the matter that had been listed in the court for the next day. To this, he replied that there was just one case which he has been dealing with and the details of other cases can be found from the concerned investigating officer, the Hoshiarpur police station ASI claimed.

Kumar said after the incident he decided to end his life. He held his senior and SHO responsible for his death before killing himself. A suicide note was found.

Senior police officials have reached the Hoshiarpur police station and an investigation is underway.

The SHO has been transferred to the police line and a probe has been ordered, the police said.
