Renowned singer Krishnakumar Kunnath alias KK died of a heart attack on Tuesday at the age of 53. In his last concert in Kolkata, KK was repeatedly wiping sweat during a live concert in Kolkata. The death of the singer is being ascribed to underlying heart disease which was not diagnosed or treated.

KK’s death is nothing less than a shock for his crores of fans. KK was not into alcohol and drugs. But now the question is arising why youth are getting heart attacks. What is the reason, due to which people are dying at a young age?

What are lifestyle diseases?

Poor diet and work pressure can cause many serious diseases. This is the reason why diseases like diabetes and blood pressure are spreading rapidly among the youth, since they are associated with ageing. Sometimes we even ignore these diseases. Due to which many other serious diseases related to heart can also occur. Ignoring these can result in heart attack, cardiac arrest and even heart failure.

Cardiac Arrest vs Heart Attack

There is a difference between a cardiac arrest and a heart attack. In cardiac arrest, the heart stops working. A heart attack, on the other hand, happens when blood is not able to reach the heart. The heart’s only function is to pump blood so if it does not pump at its capacity, then it can cause heart failure too.

Why do heart attacks happen?

Arterial blockage is one of the prime reasons for heart attacks. With the increase in smoking among youth, sediments from smoking block the arteries, which carry fresh pumped blood from the heart to other organs, and in veins, which carry the blood back to the heart. Just because one is fit does not mean the heart is doing well. There is a difference between having six-pack abs and the biceps, there are msucles for show. The unseen muscles of the heart are the real heroes often ignnore in our pursuit of health be it by adapting a diet or by pumping weights in the gym.

What are the causes of heart attacks?

Do you know why celebrities are dying at a much younger age? These people do not take excessive consumption of sugar, smoking and cholesterol seriously. The importance of heart fitness cannot be overemphasised, cardio workouts are good for this but don’t go overboard. Several celebs have died after workouts.
