Dogs are among the oldest companions of humankind. It is undeniable that a dog owner can go beyond limits to keep their pet happy and healthy. The Indian Express broke the story of a Delhi IAS officer shunting athletes from practice at the Thyagaraj Stadium before 7 pm so that he could take his beloved pooch for a walk and a run. The report said the IAS officer forced officials to shut the stadium before the usual closing time.

Delhi’s Principal Secretary (Revenue) Sanjeev Khirwar walks his dog at the stadium for about half an hour every day.

“We used to train till 8-8.30 pm under lights earlier. But now, we are asked to leave the ground by 7 pm so that the officer can walk his dog on the ground. Our training and practise routine has been disrupted,” The Indian Express quoted a coach.

After the Express exclusive, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal ordered all stadiums to remain open for players till 10 pm. Reports said Khirwar has refuted the allegation and said he sometimes takes his dog for a walk but does not disrupt the routine practice of the players. Remember this is a country where an individual medal at the Olympics, the Asian Games or the Commonwealth Games or at world championships means a whole lot of different things.

With dog owners ready to go the extra mile, even if it means interrupting sports practice, it sure does mean they love their canine friends a lot. After all, what’s cuter than a well-fed pedigreed dog?

But the love of a dog to such an extent that one turns himself into a dog? Yes, you read it right! A Japanese man has hogged headlines after he spent Rs 12 lakh to transform himself into a dog. Rich people and their uncommon desires!

The man, Toko, did not want a celebrity look but a dog look. Reportedly, this was his lifelong dream and went on to spend some $15,700 to look like a Border Collie. The costume was designed by professional agency Zeppet which shared the information on Twitter. In a tweet, Zeppet wrote that Toko went through several rounds of meetings, fittings, and revisions for the costume.

Remember the journalism school dictum, when a dog bites a man it isn’t news and it is 72 points bold headline material when a man bites a dog. It’s even bigger when a man turns dog!
